Of my original selected 16, only half have made the (probably not quite final) tentative cut.
So why the big adjustments? Basically, I’m chasing the double round scoring boost that Brisbane Heat and Perth Scorchers will have to begin the BBL|08 season.
It makes cutting the likes of Lynn and Pattinson a no-go, whilst it’s also worth backing in the second of the Bash Brothers in the Kiwi veteran Brendon McCullum for the Heat.
The wicketkeeper conundrum has me betwixt and between - I’m hoping that given the Renegades’ paucity of power at the top of the order it will mean Tim Ludeman will return to his spot at the top, following on from his appearances further down the order for the majority of the BBL|07 season.
I’ve switched from Sam Whiteman to Josh Inglis as the cheap Scorchers option with the gloves; whichever gets picked will like take the starting place in my side.
Elsewhere, the likes of experienced cheapies Callum Ferguson and Moises Henriques hold their spots in my side, and are now joined by relative youngsters in Jack Edwards and Josh Phillippe as cut-price choices.
The absence through injury of Nic Maddinson rules him out, whilst Pete Handscomb’s appearances for Australia in the Test environment mean I can’t quite justify picking him ... well, at least until he’s dropped for the Boxing Day Test and slots back into the Stars’ line-up for their BBL season alongside new recruit Dwayne Bravo, who is likely to feature for the majority of the season and thus demands a starting spot with his dual position player status.
Whilst he’s not available in both roles, I’ve switched up the side enough to sneak Adelaide Strikers’ star Rashid Khan in as a pure bowler, and will back him in to continue to showcase his incredible T20 domestic form.
At this point in time I’m holding a lot of cash on the bench - the likelihood is that I’ll panic buy in the lead-up to the first game of the year, using some of the $60,000 in the kitty to amp up my line-up.
