SuperCoach BBL: Cheapie watch

SuperCoach BBL is back and although the competition had a one-year hiatus last season, we’ve crunched the numbers to determine how every player in the Big Bash would have performed.

Below we reveal the top 100 players from BBL 2017-18, based on both total points and average.

Happy studying.

1 D’Arcy Short, new season price $258,900

The Hurricanes’ revelation was a clear leader at the top of the SuperCoach points ladder last season, scoring a massive 222 points more than the next best player Dwayne Bravo. In a career-launching year, Short scored the most runs of any player (572) at the barely-believable strike rate of 148.57. He also topped the competition for sixes (26) and fours (53). Also a handy bowler, Short chipped in with three wickets with his left arm wrist spin. Short’s stunning form saw him fast tracked into the national ODI and T20 sides. He also scored a $775,000 contract with Rajasthan Royals in the IPL.

2 Dwayne Bravo, new season price $204,300

Allrounders are SuperCoach gold as they consistently notch points in all major categories. However, surprisingly for a player of his T20 credentials, Bravo relied heavily on his bowling last season. He finished with the equal most wickets (18) alongside Rashid Khan, capturing a scalp every 14.2 balls. Bravo’s batting was well down on past output, scoring just 100 runs in 11 innings. However, his performances at the crease were enough for Bravo to push past Khan in total SuperCoach scoring, with Khan facing just 20 balls in the tournament.

3 Alex Carey, new season price $199,600

Scored the second most runs of any player (443) behind only Short at a strike rate of 141.53, with a century and two half tons. Carey was also the competition’s leading wicketkeeper, making 14 dismissals, well ahead of the next best performer Tim Ludeman (11). Like Short, Carey was rewarded for his brilliant showings with debuts for Australia in both ODIs and T20s.

4 Rashid Khan, new season price $198,800

The standout bowler of the tournament, finishing with the best economy rate of any player (5.65) and topping the wicket takers list alongside Bravo (18). As a measure of Khan’s consistency over the tournament, he never took over three wickets in an innings. Yet to turn 20 and contracted to the Strikers again for 2018-19, Khan promises to be a SuperCoach stand out for many years to come.

5 Andrew Tye, new season price $246,800

Only played six of 12 games for the Scorchers before his strong performances led to a national call-up. But he did plenty while on the field, notching the second highest average (84.2) of any player behind Short. Despite playing half the games of his rivals, the slower-ball specialist finished equal third on the wicket takers list with 16. Remarkably, Tye took a wicket every 8.8 balls and his wickets came at a cost of just 12 runs apiece. Conversely, Tye was unable to add any meaningful points with the bat, facing just four balls for the tournament.

6 Jofra Archer, new season price $174,400

The athletic Barbadian hit 150km/h with effortless ease last season, notching the fifth most wickets (16) and taking a wicket every 17.3 balls. Archer was also boosted by five catches, many of them freakish. A noted big-hitter, he also added handy SuperCoach points with bat in hand, striking at 137.93 and only being dismissed once in six innings.

7 Marcus Stoinis, new season price $227,900

The Melbourne Stars allrounder was in beast-mode during his five games before being called up to the Australian squad, producing the third highest SuperCoach average of any player. With the bat, he notched 179 runs at a Test-like average of 44.75 and totally un-Test-like strike rate of 144.35. With the ball he captured five wickets in as many games. A true all round performance.

8 Travis Head, new season price $207,500

Only played nine games, but produced the fourth highest SuperCoach average of any player. Part of a gun top-order at the Strikers that also included Carey and Jake Weatherald, Head scored 374 runs at the impressive average of 53.42. Only Short averaged more (minimum nine games). Head was also an all round contributor, notching four wickets with his tight off-spin and taking four catches.

9 Dan Christian, new season price $161,900

Out of favour with national selectors, Christian played every match for the Hurricanes and scored the sixth most points of any player. Christian lived up to his billing as one of the premier short-form allrounders in the country, finishing in the top 20 for both batting and bowling. He captured the equal 10th most wickets with 11. And despite generally batting lower in the order, Christian scored the 19th most runs with 216 at 27.00 at the enormous strike rate of 153.19.

10 Ashton Agar, new season price $197,900

A genuine all round performance by the 24-year-old. Agar was available for just nine games but produced the eighth highest SuperCoach average of any player. Bowling was Agar’s strongest suit, taking eight wickets in nine games at the second best economy rate in the league (5.74). Generally batting low in the order, Agar proved a great finisher for the Scorchers, notching 149 runs in seven innings at an average of 49.66, with four not outs.
