THE Suns are reaping the benefits of added sponsorship interest on the back of the AFLW’s emergence as they also look to fill the void left by controversial partner Huawei.

Gold Coast have signed Harbour Town Premium Outlets as a sponsor for the 2020 AFLW season.

The Suns were also on the verge of announcing another co-major sponsor to go with Sumo Salad but the deal fell through late but Gold Coast CEO Mark Evans said another could take its place soon.

It’s been tough for the Suns and many other sporting franchises to attract sponsors in recent seasons but Evans said the advent of the AFLW had brought with it enormous commercial opportunities.

“We still have one vacancy we are yet to announce but we have a couple in the pipeline,” Evans said.

“The women’s program opens up a wider range of opportunities. We now have people coming to the club talking about getting involved in the men’s and women’s programs or men’s program alone or women’s alone.

“It certainly opens up an array of potential partnershipships.

“We’re looking forward to working together to drive beneficial outcomes for both Harbour Town Premium Outlets and our members.

“It’s been great to see the support a number of organisations have shown for our inaugural AFLW season and our commercial program continue to grow.”

Gold Coast Suns AFLW foundation members will get the opportunity to meet the entire AFLW squad for the first time at an exclusive event to be held at Harbour Town Premium Outlets on Thursday night.

As part of the partnership Harbour Town Premium Outlets will also become the club’s presenting partner for its annual ladies lunch.

Gold Coast have parted ways with former ball sponsor Huawei, a company banned from being involved in Australian 5G networks and previously been under fire for concerns regarding the Chinese government and national security threats.

Evans said the club was working on a replacement and couldn’t speak highly enough of Gold Coast’s involvement with Huawei.

“I can only talk to our involvement with the company and they were terrific for us,” Evans said.

“They put some great technology into the stadium, helped our football department in technology, helped us with our games in China and were terrific a support.

“They have made some changes to their businesses in Australia for the moment and maybe we will be partners with them one day in the future.”
