Four of the Suns eight picks are Gold Coast talents while the club also opted to top up their list with established talents like Adelaide Crows premiership player Sarah Perkins.

Annise Bradfield (Bond University)

Bradfield is a very balanced midfielder who wins her own ball and distributes it well. She’s a very versatile player who can play all around the ground and can match it with taller players. Bradfield is the ultimate professional and reads the game well. A national Academy player, she has overcome illness to play some great football this year.

Maddison Levi (Bond University)

A high-level performer in both Aussie rules and rugby, Levi is tall, athletic, and tough. She can run all day and has the leg speed to break lines. Can perform at both ends of the ground and has been a shining light at QAFLW level.

Lucy Single (Bond University)

Coming from a rugby background, Single is still only a teenager but consistently outshines older and more experienced players. Single boasts agility, speed, and power and has shone for Bond through the midfield with her excitement and run and carry.

Daisy D’Arcy (Hermit Park)

Based in Townsville, D’Arcy is a member of the Suns Academy after coming from a rugby sevens and soccer background. She boasts all the attributes to be a good player including speed, agility, elite endurance, clean hands, and spatial awareness. AFLW will be a huge step

up but D’Arcy has the tools to thrive in a professional environment.

Janet Baird

Finishing equal fifth in the 2019 Thunder W Club Champion Award, the 2018/19 NTFL Gwynne Medallist is one of the brightest prospects in the NT, especially with her ability to turn defence into offence. Returned to Thunder in 2019 and played an integral role with her quick run and silky skills. Baird was one of Team Ponter’s best in the Territory All-Stars match last week and spent some time with the Suns earlier this year, training with the squad and playing a pre-season trial against the Brisbane Lions.

Sarah Perkins

A premiership player for the Adelaide Crows in 2017, Perkins has 20 AFLW games to her name and will have an immediate impact in the Suns forward line. Perkins was delisted by the Crows in 2019 before earning a reprieve as a train-on player for the Melbourne Demons who she debuted for in 2020. Perkins boasts a booming kick and will add another attacking dimension alongside All-Australian Kalinda Howarth and former Giant Brittany Perry.

Bess Keaney

Keaney is a mature-age player who comes from the Southern Saints in the VFLW, where she played alongside Club Champion Runner-Up Lauren Ahrens and new Suns recruit Alison Drennan in 2019.

Prior to that, the 28-year-old played two VFLW seasons with Melbourne Uni after transitioning from a field hockey background.

In her eight games last season Keaney averaged 13 disposals, two marks and three tackles per game playing as a half-back flanker.

Wallis Randell

Hailing from Mackay, Randell has formerly represented Queensland in basketball and has impressed with her transition to football.

A running defender with great awareness, Randell has shown she has the tools to succeed and was quickly recruited into the SUNS Academy when she made the code-switch.

In 2020 she was a regular QAFLW player, reaching 13 games for the season including three games where she was named in the best players.
