The high-profile holding that houses the original Flannerys health-food store on the Gold Coast is being sold by the founders’ family.
The store fronts the Gold Coast Highway at Miami and comes with an adjoining property in Hillcrest Pde.
The late Mal and Berice Flannery established Mrs Flannery’s – today known as Flannerys Organic & Wholefood Market – on the Gold Coast in 1973.
The family built the business into a multimillion-dollar franchise with a string of stores across Queensland before selling up in 2008.
The 810sq m 2186 Gold Coast Hwy property and the adjoining 405sq m site at 6 Hillcrest Pde are being sold via expressions of interest through Kollosche Commercial’s Adam and Tony Grbcic.
Flannery daughter Genevieve Meek, who was actively involved in the business alongside her brother Michael and husband Martin, yesterday said that when her dad bought the Miami building in 1992, it was the first large health-food store of its kind on the Gold Coast.
“Over time we knew we needed to grow, which led to the franchise being set up,” she said.
“By the time Flannerys sold, we had nine stores across the Gold Coast, Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast.”
Mrs Meek said her father chose the Miami site due to its central location and high exposure to the highway, with the adjoining property bought two years later.
There is a single-level showroom and retail building on 2186 Gold Coast Hwy, which is operating as a Flannerys franchise, while an acupuncture clinic occupies the two-level commercial building on 6 Hillcrest Parade.
They both are leased on short terms.
Kollosche’s Adam Grbcic said the selloff provided a rare opportunity to buy a large parcel on two titles in a very high-profile position.
“The holding might also present additional opportunities under mooted changes to the city plan.”
The property sits within a mixed-use zone but, under a city plan major update amendment package, could be subject to changes that support the future growth and need for density along the light rail route.
The Miami holding is held in trust by the four Flannery siblings – Genevieve, Michael, Paul, and Julie.
Expressions of interest in the entire 1215sq m Flannery holding close on June 22.
