Footy fans cheering their team at Marvel Stadium this season will get a taste of the cheapest chips and pies in the AFL — but still pay more than last year.
The AFL will on Wednesday announced pricing for popular food and drinks at its Docklands venue, with the cost of a pie to increase from $4.50 to $4.70 and hot chips up 50c to $4.90.
It will make Marvel the cheapest AFL venue in Australia to buy a Four ‘N Twenty — $1.50 cheaper than the MCG, $1.40 cheaper than Adelaide Oval and $1.80 less than Domain Stadium in Perth.
A bucket of chips will cost $1.30 less at AFL-owned Marvel Stadium than the MCG when the footy season returns to Victoria on March 13.
It comes as footy fans returning to the MCG next month can expect to pay more, with the MCC jacking prices, making beer dearer than ever and a bottle of water $4.90.
Marvel Stadium chief executive Scott Fitzpatrick told the Herald Sun it would be cheaper to buy pies, hot dogs and bottles of water at his venue this season than it was in 2016.
“The cost of doing business continues to rise, however we wanted to make sure that cost wasn’t passed on to footy fans when it comes to their favourite items on the menu,’’ he said.
“It is cheaper to buy a hot Four’N Twenty Pie at Marvel Stadium than it is at the local servo.”
He revealed fans could also look forward to new food outlets, including A1 Bakery and Daniel’s Donuts.
The price of hotdogs ($6) will be frozen at last year’s prices at Marvel and hot jam donuts drop from $6.50 to $5.
The pricing announcement coincides with Marvel Stadium’s partnership extension with hospitality company Delaware North.
The cost of a standard 425mL beer will rise from $11.50 to $12 at the MCG and a 560mL cup of Carlton Draught surges from $14.50 to $15 in the member’s.
A bottle of water will be 20c dearer, a box of fish and chips $15.50 after last year costing$14.90 and a 600ml bottle of Coke rises 30c to $6.50 at the MCG.
Pies ($6.20), hot dogs ($6), coffee ($5.50) and hot chip ($6.20) prices at the MCG will remain at last year’s prices.
A bucket of chips costs a whopping $7.20 at Optus Stadium, pies $6.50 and hotdogs $7.90.
