An out of control vehicle has smashed through a Gold Coast bus stop before crashing into a fence and injuring two people.

The Toyota Prado veered off the roadway at Parklands Drive, Southport about 9.45am on Tuesday, a Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokesman said.

A male driver in his 50s was helped from the vehicle by firefighters when they arrived on scene.

The man was reportedly suffering from chest pain and was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

A teenage boy who was a passenger in the vehicle sustained a knee injury and was also hospitalised in a stable condition.

The impact caused extensive damage to the front of the four-wheel drive vehicle.

Half of the bus stop shelter had been ripped from its concrete foundations and the steel frame warped from the force of the crash.

The cause of the incident is unknown.

Firefighters remained on scene for more than an hour and a half awaiting the arrival of Energex crews to assess the damage.
