Heavy delays on the M1 following two vehicle crash

A two-vehicle crash on the M1 caused major delays to peak-hour traffic on the Gold Coast on Tuesday, while there was gridlock in Southport due to a major event at the Aquatic Centre.
The two vehicle nose-to-tail was reported to emergency services about 8.15am near the southbound Smith Street Motorway off-ramp.
Firefighters arrived on the scene a short time later and cleared the debris from the roadway.
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said no injuries were reported and paramedics were not required to attend.
The crash scene was cleared about 8.30am but heavy congestion was persisted southbound on the M1.
Cars had come to a crawl for about 3km from the Hope Island Rd on-ramp back to Upper Coomera.
The motorway was also slow in sections between Helensvale and Arundel, with further delays through Gaven.
