A GOLD Coast golf club will be home to a new Southern Hemisphere-first attraction.

A state-of-the-art virtual sports TopGolf Swing Suite will be built at the Parkwood Golf Club as the centrepiece of its $7 million revamp.

The virtual golf game, which is a spin-off of the Oxenford attraction, will be the first of its kind outside of the US and will open before Christmas.

It will have five bays open to customers.

The sporting institution is being renamed The Club at Parkwood Village as part of the revamp, which has been in the works for several years.

“Two months ago, we began the next stage of the precinct’s evolution with the creation of The Club at Parkwood Village,” The Club managing director Luke Altschwager said.

“Now, just in time for the Christmas party season, we are ready to open stage one of the redevelopment, featuring the TopGolf Swing Suite, a luxury virtual-sports concept that has taken the US by storm.

“We are proud that the first TopGolf Swing Suite to be built outside of North America will be right here at The Club at Parkwood Village.”

The golf club has been revamped with “resort style” features, including serviced cabanas in an area dubbed The Backyard as well as children’s playgrounds.

Its dining options have also been upgraded with the installation of a woodfire pizzeria and market-style street-vendor spit roast.

It comes more than a year after the $35 million multistorey TopGolf attraction opened next to Wet’nWild.

“We are delighted to team with The Club at Parkwood Village to introduce the TopGolf Swing Suite concept to Australia,” said Swing Suite president Ron Powers

“We are excited to provide a new kind of indoor interactive social experience that will entertain visitors and enhance the overall offering at Parkwood.

“Powered by industry-leading Full Swing simulators, games are designed so that everyone can have a great time.”

The Parkwood club is just the latest in a series of revamps of the city’s older golf clubs.

Helensvale Golf Course is in the process of reopening with a modernised club house and improved features.

Receivers were appointed to the club in early 2018, forcing its closure in March that year.

Owned by the Gold Coast City Council, it was leased earlier this year to Brett Lawton, 52, his son Christopher, 25, and daughter Danielle, 23.

The family has three decades of experience managing golf courses in Brisbane and Ipswich.
