The CEO of the Gold Coast Suns moved to the city from Melbourne to help start the new club after working to establish the AAMI stadium in Melbourne. The former COO of the club is determined to see the stadium and the city lift its customer service game and is a strong promoter of the club’s charity organisations.
39. JUSTIN FUNG
The Australian boss of Aquis Group, which has extended its reach on the Coast through ongoing sponsorship of the Titans. The company helped out when the team wanted to lure Jarryd Hayne to town. Their Aquis Farms racehorse stud enjoyed success at Magic Millions and they have big plans for Surfers Paradise.
38. CHRIS MILLS
The Queensland Airports Ltd CEO is responsible for the Gold Coast, Townsville and Mount Isa airports. The former GM of Economic Development Queensland and Brisbane’s Southbank Corporation, Mr Mills is well connected in business, government and tourism and is overseeing the airport redevelopment.

The real estate moguls are the main players in the Hedges Avenue millionaires’ row. The family also has a racing empire with Gai Waterhouse, had a 2013 Melbourne Cup win with Fiorente and a contender this year in Excess Knowledge. Luke is a board member of the Turf Club and the pair are both strong supporters of surf lifesaving.

The president and managing director South-East Asia and Pacific Rim for Wyndham Hotel Group and Wyndham Vacation Resorts Asia Pacific is head of one of the Gold Coast’s largest private employers. Mr Robinson oversees 70 hotels and resorts with more under development with the company expanding rapidly in South-East Asia.

The Greek billionaire owns some of our best-known properties and is opening a local office here and another in Brisbane this year. The Adelaide native has big plans for Marina Mirage. He shelled out $65 million in 2015 for the retail and office precinct at the Oracle, Broadbeach.
34. CHRIS SCOTT
In December stepped back from the role of managing director to executive director of Gold Coast-based G8, the country’s largest listed childcare operator and one of the city’s key private employers. The company’s share price took a 15 per cent hit in September after they reported a drop in net profit. Gary Carroll is new MD and CEO.

For four years has been managing director of Villaworld, which in 2016 celebrated 30 years as a listed company. Mr Treasure has helped grow the market capitalisation from $50 million to $220 million by building annual sales from 400 properties to 1200 during his tenure. The director of Economic Development and Major Projects at the council has to make the pollies’ promises reality. The cruise terminal is back on the agenda and he has oversight of the cultural precinct. Mr Scott has the Commonwealth Games under his directorate as well as international relations, regional marketing and tourism policy

The Bell brothers, with Andrew at the helm for residential and Greg commercial and industrial, have spent more than 25 years building the Coast’s most successful real estate empire. The Ray White Surfers Paradise Group is the number one office in the country out of 1000 branches and the past year saw them move to a new office at 50 Cavill Ave.
30. PAUL DONOVAN
The Queensland Airports Ltd executive is also the chairman of Gold Coast Tourism and has spent decades working on getting direct flights between the Gold Coast and China, as well as other international ports. Mr Donovan is also on the board of the Gold Coast Titans, and Tourism and Events Queensland.

Mr Ell has spent 40 years in charge of the powerful Leda Development group with a portfolio of residential, commercial, retail and industrial developments completed and under way. Splits his time between Sydney and the Gold Coast, where he has major developments at Pimpama and south of the border in the Tweed.
28 GARY ALFORD
The CEO of ASX-listed Retail Food Group, with managing director Andre Nell, operates Australia’s largest food franchisor whose global brands include Gloria Jeans, Michel’s, Pizza Capers, Donut King, Brumbys, Crust and more. The company’s stocks rose healthily in the last quarter of 2016 and the company employs more than 500 people across the Gold Coast.

The head of the city’s light rail project, who also led construction of the Gateway Motorway, is at the top of a series of companies which were contracted to deliver the huge first stage of the infrastructure project and the buck stops with him again now stage two is well under way. A well-liked and respected CEO.
26 JOHN-PAUL LANGBROEK
The popular Surfers Paradise MP is Shadow Minister for Health and Ambulance Services and Shadow Minister for the Commonwealth Games. Mr Langbroek is well regarded in his party and electorate, holds one of the safest seats in Queensland and plenty of sway with those inside and outside of politics.
25 STIRLING HINCHLIFFE
The Minister for the Commonwealth Games and Transport had a forgettable year with repeated failure of the southeast Queensland rail network. Has some important jobs to do for the Gold Coast in the next 15 months — luckily he has a host of public servants to support him.
24 GRAHAM ANNESLEY
The CEO of the Gold Coast Titans is one of the most highly respected leaders in the country. His guidance and voice through the Titans’ recent low points have seen his stocks rise significantly. It was a year of mixed fortunes for the Gold Coast Titans but there are clear skies ahead with Mr Annesley at the helm.
23 MARGOT ROBBIE
In a world that often rates star power above everything else, this Gold Coaster controls plenty. Her name alone is enough to draw millions at the box office and she has legions of fans that hang on her every social media post and TV interview.
A single Instagram post from the Somerset College grad can strip the country of gin and sunglasses.

The CEO of Village Roadshow Parks had a good year in what was a bad one for theme parks. The group signed a deal that will see them operate a new attraction near Macau, while a Top Golf attraction, hotel and new roller coaster are under way here on the Coast. The group also does well out of the Hollywood movies filmed at its studios.
21 TONY HICKEY
The lawyer and developer is well-connected at the highest levels of business and politics and is Australian representative of Forise, the group behind the $1.2 billion, 89-storey Spirit building on the Surfers Esplanade. His Hickey Lawyers company motto is “it is not good enough to simply identify the problem — our task is to fix it for you”.
