THE managing director of O’Reilly’s Rainforest Retreat is among the most influential tourism identities on the Coast. He is chairman of the Queensland Tourism Industry Council and has also served as a director of Gold Coast Tourism, the Queensland Wine Industry Association, Tourism Queensland and more.
79. GEOFFREY SCHUHKRAFT
HE has managed some of Australia’s biggest names in sport and music and is a confidant of the Mayor. Most recently based in Dubai, Mr Schuhkraft is senior adviser on Middle East relations for the Queensland Government and City of Gold Coast and is credited for attracting lucrative Middle Eastern investment deals to the city.

THE Hedges Ave high-flyer, cinema chain owner maintains clout in business and political circles. As chairman of the National Cinema Operators Australasia, he is an advocate of tougher penalties for illegal downloaders. A key figure in local boards in the city, including Bond University and investor in Gold Coast Skyride.

HAS had a horror run of injuries since taking gold for hurdles at the 2012 Olympics and missed competing in Rio but is likely to make the most of GC2018 in her role as ambassador. Pearson was given an Order of Australia Medal in 2014 and is the face of Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary and the Animal Welfare League of Queensland.

THESE business partners are key players in the city’s commercial property industry. Their Knight Frank agency moved into new Broadbeach offices in 2015 where they have been involved in some of the city’s biggest ever property deals. Mr Witheriff is also the deputy chairman of the Broadbeach Alliance.

THE Hot Tomato executive chairman and publican has high-level connections at city hall and in the business community here and nationally, and his family connections are also wide — his daughter is actress Anna Torv and his sister was married to Rupert Murdoch for 31 years. The savvy entrepreneur is also behind mygc.com.au.

A SPECIALIST in criminal defence who has represented some of the highest profile people in the city and beyond. His profile has been boosted in recent years by his representation of criminal motorcycle gang members and Gold Coast Titans players who were facing drugs charges.

THE co-founder and CEO of Burleigh Brewing is also chair of the Australian Craft Beer Industry Association. With husband and brewer Brennan, opened Burleigh Brewing’s cool new premises in 2016. The local beers are the beverage of choice at all the city’s key functions, and Ms Fielding has worked hard to make it that way.

THE Hedges Avenue resident is franchisee of Harvey Norman’s busiest store in Australia at Bundall. Mr Cavalier keeps a low profile but is well-connected nationwide. He took a punt and created Harvey Norman’s first “cooking inspiration gallery” in 2016 and is a member of the Gold Coast Community Fund committee.

THE Currumbin-based Chair of Queensland Airports Limited is also a director of Downer-EDI Ltd and Seven Group Holdings Limited. Ms Chaplain is a director of Efic, Australia’s export credit agency, and was a member of the Board of Taxation. She is Chair of Canstar Pty Ltd, a financial services research and ratings company.

THE director for Glycomics at Griffith University is among the world’s most respected medical researchers. He is renowned for his life-changing influenza treatment and heads a team that is tackling some of the worst diseases known to humans. Highly influential within and beyond his field.

THE former world champion MotoGP racer is also a successful businessman. He has hosted some of the world’s most famous faces in his Coomera mansion and flies many more around the country in his fleet of private jets. Announced his plans to move to the south of France this year to help his son pursue his own racing career.

THE hairdressing and boating supremo known as Stefan has a lot of stock in, and spends much of his time on, the Gold Coast. His growing Boating World showroom and new homewares business at Coomera is gaining momentum and he remains one of the nation’s most successful businessmen.

THE boss of the city’s biggest indoor entertainment centre, the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre, plays a crucial role in attracting big business and industry conventions. The centre is set to host accredited media from across the Commonwealth in 2018. Ms Readings is also on the board of Gold Coast Tourism.

THE head of the council’s City Planning Committee maintains strong ties within the LNP at all levels of government and is often mentioned in conversations about higher political office. He has a strong social media presence and is popular in his northern Gold Coast division.

Her photos and tweets are watched by more than 240,000 people and the world’s biggest brands are climbing over each other to have her name on their products. Made a great comeback from injury in 2016, taking out the Pipe Invitational.

THE president and manager of Harrison Development Group is a well-respected and vocal advocate for the development industry. Is Queensland president of the UDIA, chairman of the Gold Coast Light Rail Business Advisory Board, and an influential advocate for the further expansion of the city’s tram system.
