Second man arrested, charged over suspected torching of Wayville shooting getaway car

Police have made a second arrest after a car was torched following an early-morning Wayville shooting in February.

Shots fired at Greenhill Road carpark

A second man has been charged by police over a torched getaway car linked to an underground carpark shooting in Wayville on February 26.

A 22-year-old man of no fixed address was arrested on Thursday and charged with arson after a purple Honda Civic sedan was found set alight in Kurralta Park.

Police say the car was earlier seen leaving the scene of a terrifying shooting at the Motor Traders Association building on Greenhill Rd.

The man’s arrest by Eastern Districts detectives comes after the first suspect, a 51-year-old Fulham Gardens man, was arrested and charged with arson following initial investigations. He was given police bail and is set to face court in June.

The car was located abandoned on Selby St a short time after the shooting incident at Wayville on February 26.

The two alleged arsonists have not been charged in relation to the shooting.

Two shots were fired around 8am in peak-hour traffic in the carpark of a Greenhill Rd building – within metres of neighbouring Annesley Junior School.

A luxury Mercedes belonging to the victims was struck by gunfire and was towed for forensic examination.

No injuries were reported.

The two victims, who are not accused of any wrongdoing, were later seen assisting with the investigation.

One of the victims works for NDIS provider Better Care Australia, which is among a range of organisations in the MTA SA office building – including rehabilitation for veterans service Helping Heroes and another NDIS provider Community Assist.

Police said the attack was not random and they are hunting at least one suspect.

They say the burned car was later spotted on CCTV parked outside a Selby St home and will allege one of the two men suspected of the incident were seen pouring something over the car before it burst into flames.

The 22-year-old was refused bail and will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court later on Thursday.

He was also charged with breach of bail.
