Man seen on CCTV pouring something over car before it bursts into flames after Wayville shooting

Police are still hunting for a suspect at the centre of a baffling shooting at Wayville – and car fire – in which the director of a disability care provider was targeted.

The Advertiser/7NEWS Adelaide: Paralowie murder arrest, Wayville shooter search

Police are continuing to hunt a person who opened fire on a female disability care worker and a man in an underground carpark in Wayville as they arrived for work on Monday.

The person fired at least two shots at the owner and operator of Better Care Australia and the man, hitting a luxury Mercedes in the carpark of the MTA building on Greenhill Rd about 8am, before fleeing the scene. No injuries were reported.

Police want to speak to a man who was later captured on CCTV in Kurralta Park, pouring something on a car that police allege was used as the getaway vehicle.

The man, wearing a red puffer jacket and blue gloves, was seen parking a purple Honda Civic outside a Kurralta Park home just before 8:30am on Monday before pouring something over the car. It then burst into flames.

On Tuesday morning, police would not rule out the man as a suspect in the shooting because they were still investigating all lines of inquiry. They said on Monday the shooting was not random.

7NEWS has reported the victims have told police they did not know the shooter.

The two victims, who are not accused of any wrongdoing, were seen co-operating with the investigation for more than nine hours before emerging holding hands.

BCA was open as usual on Tuesday morning despite the daylight shooting.

The Advertiser saw BCA workers park their cars and make their way into the office from 8:45am – in preparation of doors opening at 9.30am.

Their office – located on the first floor – looked busy with more than a handful of workers attending to their job.

The two people shot at were not seen arriving at work.

Detective Chief Inspector Peter Duance said the car fire was ignited around 10am with a jerry can.

“It’s since been confirmed that the car fire is in fact linked to the shot-firing incident at Wayville,” Chief Inspector Duance said.

“A purple-coloured Honda Civic sedan was engulfed with flames when crews arrived and was completely destroyed in the blaze.

“That was the vehicle seen leaving the scene of the shooting.”

Police say they have “some information” about why the pair were shot at.

Chief Inspector Duance said the shooting – which occurred about 8am on Monday as peak hour traffic rushed by the building within metres of neighbouring Annesley Junior School – was not random.

“We’re following a line of inquiry at present and that’s what’s brought us to that conclusion,” Chief Inspector Duance said. “We’re aware of one (suspect) at this time.”

Police are yet to recover the firearm but said there was no danger to the wider community.

“Rest assured, it was targeted, it wasn’t a random-type incident. I want to assure the public that there’s no community safety issues … it was clearly targeted.”

The Mercedes belonging to the victims was towed for forensic examination.

The female victim reportedly stumbled into traffic screaming, and was assisted by a good Samaritan who stopped cars and helped her.
