Detectives end rubbish dump search at Edinburgh for remains of murdered Andrews Farm man Geoffrey McLean

Police have concluded their rubbish dump search for remains of murdered man Geoffrey McLean, after finding his torso in a wheelie-bin last year.

A search for the missing remains of murdered Andrews Farm man Geoffrey McLean at a northern-suburbs rubbish concluded on Wednesday with the remains yet to be located.

Major Crime Investigation Branch conducted the search at the Uleybury landfill site, at Edinburgh.

Major Crime detectives were accompanied by the forensic response section, forensic science SA and recruits from the Police Academy throughout Monday.

Detective Superintendent Des Bray, officer in charge of the Major Crime investigation branch, said it was of upmost important that they keep searching.

“Police will continue to search for Geoff’s remains so that his family and loved ones can farewell him in the right way,” he said.

Mark John Murphy and Sheree May Glastonbury, 49, have been charged with his murder after Mr McLean’s torso was found dumped in a wheelie bin.

The torso was discovered by a worker in long grass on Cheviot Rd, Salisbury South, in October last year, but were initially too decomposed for police to determine an age or sex.

Forensic testing confirmed they belong to Mr McLean – who was last seen at his Andrews Farm home on August 18.

In September, police searched for his remains at the Stebonheath wetlands near St Columba College.

Ms Glastonbury charged with having assaulted, invaded the home of, seriously harmed and attempted to kill her lover in the months prior to his death – as well as a charge of arson.

SA Police documents, filed with the Adelaide Magistrates Court, charge Mark John Murphy with murder, attempted murder, assault, serious criminal trespass and intentionally causing serious harm to another person.

It is alleged Mr Murphy, 51, of Adelaide’s north, assaulted Mr McLean with “a bottle They further allege that, four days later, Mr Murphy invaded Mr McLean’s home at Andrews Farm while armed with “a log-splitter” – and then attempted to murder him.

That same day, police allege, Mr Murphy “caused serious harm” to Mr McLean while “intending to cause him serious harm”.

Finally, police allege Mr Murphy murdered Mr McLean sometime between August 17 and 20, 2022.

Court documents allege Ms Glastonbury committed the same offences as Mr Murphy, as well as one additional charge of arson against a building or motor vehicle.

Mr Murphy’s twin brother Peter James Murphy, 50, and his partner Lynette Sexton, 50, both of Brahma Lodge have also been arrested in connection with the murder.

They were each charged with assisting an offender.

All four of the accused have been remanded in custody.
