Three teens arrested in dramatic police chase

Wild footage has emerged of three teens being arrested after allegedly assaulting a woman, stealing her car and leading police on two separate pursuits.

The intense vision was provided to this publication after two 16-year-olds and a 17-year-old were charged at the weekend over the alleged theft and assault in Dean St, Casino.

On Saturday night, the trio allegedly assaulted a 67-year-old woman before stealing her Hyundai i30 sedan.

Under Operation Regional Mongoose, Richmond Police District officers launched two pursuits in an attempt to apprehend the alleged offenders.

A second car believed to be stolen – a Holden Captiva – was found dumped, with the trio allegedly piling into the Hyundai.

Spikes were later deployed and the teens allegedly reversed into a moving police car to evade capture before driving over the spikes, causing the car to lose control.

The subsequent dramatic arrest footage shows several police cars chasing the i30, which is seen weaving all over the road before coming to a stop.

A barefoot woman is then seen running frantically towards the scene before she is nearly taken out by an incoming 4WD.

One-time Richmond Valley Council candidate William Drew said he was outraged after seeing the footage.

“Police used excessive force during the arrest while they were surrendering, he claimed.

Mr Drew claimed the teen who was crash-tackled to the ground was taken to Lismore Base Hospital to be treated for severe lacerations to his face.

A NSW Police spokesman said they have not received any formal complaints in relation to how the arrest was handled and would not provide further comment.

The trio remains before the Children’s Court.
