Pondering what it would be like to pour a pint at your very own pub? A historic Northern Rivers watering hole is back on the market.

The 133-year-old Rappville Commercial Hotel near Casino was listed for sale in April after current publicans Lisa Stewart, a former policewoman, and partner Col Foyster, purchased the venue in 2020.

The 1911-built pub, known to locals as ‘The Rappy’, has undergone a major facelift with renovations throughout and is listed on Real Commercial for $990,000 – $1,100,000. The 0.8ha property is being sold through First National Casino.

The 425 sqm federation-style building has endured the worst of many weather events over the years, having been inundated during the horrific 2022 North Coast floods. The pub has also burnt down twice and been rebuilt.

And despite the township of Rappville being decimated by a significant bushfire event in 2019, it didn’t stop Ms Stewart from giving life as a publican a fair crack.

She told The Northern Star in 2020 when she found out the historic venue was for sale, she couldn’t shake the charms of Rappville.

“To change an entire career to that of a publican in an unfamiliar town, (and being someone) who has never poured a beer, was a matter to seriously dismiss,” she said.

“However, never one to walk away from challenges, curiosity got the better of me and I drove the eight hour trip to Rappville two days later and never looked back.”

According to the current market listing, the interior is adorned with distinctive timber features and a main bar which “radiates a nostalgic atmosphere of a bygone era”.

“Downstairs you will find the Whistle Stop dining room and out back is the expansive 70-seat restaurant area complete with a fully operational commercial kitchen,” the listing reads.

“Relax in this iconic spot and enjoy the view of trains passing by across the road on their journey north and south.”

The agent said that Ms Stewart and Mr Foyster were in the process of renovating six upstairs accommodation rooms and a cocktail bar.

Ms Stewart told the Australian Rural and Regional News in April that the decision to sell was difficult.

“Hospitality is hard, but it’s difficult to leave. We fell in love with the hotel,” she said.

Ms Stewart has been contacted for comment.
