The Brisbane Magistrates Court heard Queensland Rail called police after rocks had been thrown at a train on the airport line from Jim Soorley Bikeway at Nundah on June 18.

Police spoke to Bryant who said train drivers regularly sounded their horn at him deliberately as he cycled the bike path.

“I felt bullied, the train drivers single me out on that bike path all the time,” Bryant told the court.

“I get singled every time I go along there they purposely wait till they’re above me and blast the horn.

“It scared the absolute crap out of me and I reacted like that.”

Bryant, 34, said his mental health had been suffering lately because of an injured knee.

Magistrate Leanne Scoines said she usually encountered younger offenders throwing rocks at trains.

“I can see that you’re distressed by it but it’s a wholly inappropriate thing to do,” she said.

“It’s incredibly dangerous. You could maim, kill, all sorts of things, throwing rocks at trains.

Bryant, who was self represented, interjected at this point.

“I could have that happen to me falling off the bike. I could smash all my teeth in and have to eat through a straw for the rest of my life,” he said.

Ms Scoines urged him to see someone about the anxiety the train horns were causing him.

“It might be annoying for people but you are having an extreme reaction to it,’ she said.

Ms Scoines placed Bryant on a one year $500 good behaviour bond. She did not record a conviction.
