A man charged in connection to the alleged murder of a teenager who disappeared after a purported car trip to a regional Queensland airport has been refused bail.
Kieran Daniel Mittelheuser, 30, has been charged with two counts of accessory after the fact to the alleged murder of Pheobe Bishop and one count of attempting to pervert justice.
The 17-year-old was allegedly murdered by her Gin Gin flatmates Tanika Bromley, 33, and James Wood, 34, earlier this year.
Phoebe vanished after she was supposed to be dropped at Bundaberg Airport for a flight to Western Australia May 15, but failed to board the flight, police say.
Police allege Pheobe was killed, her body transported in a grey Hyundai, and moved twice before being buried in remote national parkland, it has been reported previously.
Her remains were found in Good Night Scrub National Park on June 6
Mittelheuser, 30, applied for bail in Brisbane Supreme Court this week. He is also charged with fraud – dishonest application of property of another on May 15, possessing dangerous drugs on May 19, breaching bail on June 9, failure to appear in accordance with an undertaking on June 23, contravene direction or requirement police officer in November last year and two counts of driving without a licence disqualified by a court order on May 19. He is not accused of murdering Pheobe.
As previously reported by The Courier-Mail police will allege Mittelheuser interfered with the police investigation by accessing Pheobe’s mobile phone in the days after she was reported missing.
Bundaberg Magistrates Court has heard Mittelheuser’s fraud charge is related to the accessory after the fact charges. The Bundaberg court was told the fraud charge involved the alleged use of a credit or debit card that is also relevant to the accessory allegations.
As previously reported by The Courier-Mail police will allege Mittelheuser helped Wood and Bromley in order to enable them to escape punishment as he applied to use a Commonwealth Bank debit card belonging to Pheobe on May 15, the day she went missing.
On Friday Justice Thomas Sullivan refused Mittelheuser, of Norville, bail.
Members of Pheobe’s family including her mum Kylie and sister Kaylea attended.
Wood and Bromley are each charged with one count of murder and interfering with a corpse.
