Kieren Daniel Mittelheuser accused of attempting to pervert course of justice
A 30-year-old man already facing charges over a teenager's death near Bundaberg now confronts allegations he interfered with the murder investigation.
One of the three people charged in relation to the death of Pheobe Bishop near Bundaberg in May has now been charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice.
The matter of Kieren Daniel Mittelheuser, 30, was briefly mentioned in the Bundaberg Magistrates Court on Friday.
It was the first time the new charge was heard.
Acting Magistrate Nigel Rees ordered a brief of evidence be prepared, to be ready by January 16 next year.
No details of the new charge were given in court though the Bundaberg courthouse said the offence was alleged to have been committed at Wacol between July 18, 2025 and October 2, 2025.
Police will allege Mr Mittelheuser interfered with the police investigation by accessing Pheobe’s mobile phone in the days after she was reported missing.
Pheobe’s housemates, James Wood and Tanika Bromley, have been charged with her murder and remain in custody.
Ms Bishop’s mother and sister were in court to see Mr Mittelheuser appear for the first time on Friday — after he was excused on the first occasion in August and suffered a medical episode before his October court hearing.
Mr Mittelheuser remains in custody and was not required to address the court.
He has not yet been required to enter a plea to any of the charges.
