CoreLogic data reveals Gold Coast suburbs where it is cheaper to buy in than rent

New data has pinpointed 38 suburbs across the Glitter Strip where properties are generally cheaper to buy than rent.

CoreLogic head of research Eliza Owen said the property data provider had identified 62.5 per cent of properties across the Gold Coast were estimated to have cheaper mortgage serviceability than rent.

Ms Owen said Stapylton properties were particularly affordable, with an estimated median value of $258,425.

“Low property values are a common characteristic across suburbs where mortgages are cheaper than rent,” she said.

“Lower typical household incomes are also a characteristic of the kinds of areas where rents are more expensive than mortgages, because there is more demand for rental accommodation, where deposit hurdles and stamp duty can create barriers to home ownership.

“Overall, the current low rate environment is an excellent time for renters across southeast Queensland in particular to weigh up their rental rates with home ownership costs.”
