HEDGES Ave’s only tower has reached its peak.
The final concrete to create the roof of Sunland Group’s 44-storey 272 Hedges Ave was poured this week ahead of schedule, despite being built through the Covid-19 pandemic.
Sunland managing director Sahba Abedian said builders had added a new level to the $250m tower every four days during its construction.
“Hutchinson Builders and their team of 220 construction workers have worked tirelessly in reaching the roof level by mid-year,” he said.
WHY GOLD COAST RICH-LISTERS CAN'T GET ENOUGH OF HEDGES AVE
Construction began on the tower in July 2019 and it passed the halfway mark in late 2020.
It has risen a further 13 storeys to reach the roof level since March.
Hutchinson Builders senior project manager Michael Sipinkoski said the significant planning which went into the development had allowed it to stay on schedule throughout the challenges of the pandemic, including two lockdowns.
“Even when Covid-19 delivered unprecedented challenges, our productivity did not falter,” he said.
“Whether adjusting to social distancing restrictions or dealing with delays in receiving supplies, the team continually sought to find solutions and never allowed anything to become an excuse to fail.
“Internal works have been progressing simultaneously, and while topping out is a key milestone that should be celebrated, our focus now will be channelled into completing this iconic building successfully.”
The first residents, which will include Sunland founder and chairman Soheil Abedian, will move into the tower in mid-2022.
All of its 98 units have already sold, primarily to local owner-occupiers.

Sunland is in the midst of a period of significant activity, with construction continuing on its $1.3 billion The Lanes mini city at Clear Island Waters.
In October it also unveiled its planned $82 million Lanes shopping centre which was redesigned in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic to better suit public tastes.
It will have 7000 sqm of retail laneways interwoven with a fresh food market hall, cafes, restaurants and a health and wellbeing precinct.
