IMAGES have been released showing the jaw-dropping luxury of new units planned for Burleigh as the man behind the project says he wants to defuse the white-hot anger against new developments.
Brisbane-based Spyre Group this week unveiled plans for a three-unit, “uber-luxury” apartment building to replace a 100-year-old house on Goodwin Terrace, the third of four new projects for the beachside strip in the past year.

Spyre Group director Andrew Malouf said the company was looking to deliver a “very boutique” project on the headland that would not inflame the community further.
“We are very conscious of meeting community expectations with this project and we have tabled a proposal with the Gold Coast Council that we believe will be very well received by the community at large,” he said.
“While in the preliminary stages we are looking to create a very low-density proposition that fits with the aesthetics of the pristine headland.
“We have conceived a plan that will see only three individual dwellings on the site which will undoubtedly be seen favourably by the community and the council.”

The Spyre project follows a series of major redevelopments on the same stretch of road: the recently completed Norfolk Tower and the nearly finished Luna, both from Brisbane developer David Calvisi’s Forme.
Construction is expected to begin soon on the controversial plan to redevelop the Old Burleigh Theatre Arcade at the base of Goodwiin Terrace
The fate of the century-old house currently on the site is unknown.
Spyre bought the 546 sqm site for $11m.
The units in are expected to sell for more than $9 million, with the penthouse to have a rooftop terrace with pool.
Spyre Group in the past year achieved sellouts on a range of its projects including Cala Dei in Coolangatta, the $77 million Natura in Burleigh Heads, the $79 Million Elysian in Broadbeach and the $25 million MAYA in Kirra Beach.

AN elevated site overlooking the ocean at a Burleigh Heads hot spot could be poised to become home to the Gold Coast’s most elite apartment building.
The Spyre group is planning three apartments at 10 Goodwin Tce that has been home to a 100-year-old house.
Spyre is believed to have the 546sq m site under contract for about $11m, or more than $20,000 a square metre.
The Brisbane developer has not disclosed apartment prices but it is believed they will start at $8m or more, with the penthouse possibly north of $12m.
The Ocean Isles on the beachfront at Main Beach has been regarded as the city’s most elite apartment building, reigning at the top for 30 years.

The highest price paid in the five-title building, which has a concierge, was $6.62m achieved by hotelier Tony Burnett last year.
The Spyre group has enjoyed a run of success on the Gold Coast with projects such as Elysian at Broadbeach, Natura at Burleigh, and Maya at Kirra.
The site Spyre wants to develop has the eight-level Park Towers building on one side and a two-level home and eight-level Hillhaven apartments on the other side.
Spyre held talks with the Gold Coast City Council in February over a proposal to put a six-level building on the Goodwin Tce property but, despite the heights of adjoining towers, was told the height was a departure from the medium-density zoning and the “strategic framework”.

The planned “bespoke” apartments are to be in a stepped building and to have ceiling heights of up to 4.5 metres.
The penthouse is to have a rooftop terrace with pool.
The master suites in the Bureau Proberts-designed project will be at the rear of the building and one-and-a-half floors of basement will cater for 14 vehicles.
The Spyre plan comes on the heels of two top-end boutique apartment buildings being undertaken on the lower portion of Goodwin Tce, Norfolk and Luna.
Norfolk is completed and buyers who have paid from $3m to more than $6m have moved in.
Neighbour Luna is close to a sellout and moving toward completion.
A 14-level tower is planned at the entrance to Goodwin Tce on the Old Burleigh Theatre Arcade site.
