A well-known Gold Coast real estate agent has been busted with illicit drugs at a popular Sydney venue while police were investigating an unrelated incident.

Tyler Wagstaffe, 25, pleaded guilty to possessing 0.8g of cocaine on a boozy night out at the Beach Road Hotel in Bondi on July 16.

Agreed police facts reveal Wagstaffe was under arrest in relation to a different allegation - the nature of which was not disclosed in the documents - when officers searched him at the venue.

Police then located a small clear resealable bag with white power in his wallet.

The initial investigation was discontinued and Wagstaffe was charged with possessing the prohibited drug.

At Tweed Heads Local Court on September 5, magistrate Geoff Dunlevy said cocaine consumption supported an “evil” drug industry in South and Central America.

“(Cocaine) is associated with an enormous amount of human suffering, militarised gangs cause terror, violence and mass murder,” Mr Dunlevy said.

“When you’re consuming (it), you’re putting money into the pockets of people that can only be accurately described as evil.”

Mr Dunlevy described the offence as a “lapse of good character” and noted Wagstaffe’s remorse before placing him on a two-year conditional release order without conviction.

The Tallebudgera man - who was represented by high profile, TikTok-famous criminal solicitor James Diamond - fled the courthouse through a bush to avoid waiting media after his matter was concluded.

Wagstaffe is a respected real estate agent with J. W. Prestige on the Gold Coast and is also a long time Gold Coast footballer, previously playing in the NPL2 with Gold Coast United FC since their 2018 inauguration before switching to Surfers Paradise Apollo in 2022.

In a July social media post, Wagstaff was quoted as saying “Surfers want to push to get to NPL and I would like to be a part of that journey and help where I can.”
