Byron, Lismore Covid-19: Latest on cases and vaccination rates

Covid case numbers are rising daily across the North Coast as holiday goers flock to a region in flood recovery.

From up-to-date local government case numbers and vaccination information, here’s everything you need to know about the current outbreak.

It comes as NSW Health reveals they will scale back its daily Covid updates from Monday.

NSW Covid cases, deaths and vaccination data will be moved to weekly surveillance reports posted on the NSW Health website.

Daily case numbers

The North Coast has recorded a staggering Covid increase from March to April, with the local council areas of Tweed, Lismore and Ballina now reporting case numbers between 1000-2999 as of April 23.

Northern NSW Local Health District recorded 754 Covid cases on April 21.

In Byron Shire this meant 136 new cases were recorded and in Ballina Shire this meant 146 new cases.

The remaining cases were 184 in Tweed, 117 in Lismore, 64 in Richmond Valley, 91 in Clarence Valley, 14 in Kyogle and two in Tenterfield.

There were 47 Covid-19 positive patients in hospital with one in an intensive care unit.

One Byron Shire resident, aged in their 70s, was also reported to have died from the virus.

According to NSW Health, here are the current Covid case numbers as of April 22.

Vaccination numbers

Despite the Federal Covid vaccination program beginning in February 2021, the Northern NSW region stills falls behind the state when it comes to certain locations.

Namely, the postcodes of 2483 (Billinudgel, Brunswick Heads, Ocean Shores), 2482 (Mullumbimby, Upper Main Arm, Wilsons Creek) and 2475 (Urbenville, Tooloom, Wallaby Creek) are still only 80-90 per cent first dose vaccinated.

The residents of 2484 (Boat Harbour, Bray Park and Back Creek) and 2476 (Acacia Creek, Acacia Plateau and Boomi Creek) are also only 80-90 per cent fully vaccinated.

All other Northern NSW postcodes are 90+ per cent full vaccinated.
