A Fairview Park mother says she has been forced to keep her children indoors after “inconsiderate fireworks bandits” began terrorising the neighbourhood in recent days.
Catherine Shillingford said she had reported the police three incidents of people letting off fireworks at random times during the day and night since last Thursday.
“They are inconsiderate fireworks bandits,” Ms Shillingford said.
“The poor wildlife are being affected also because of their stupidity.
“I heard the possums growling during the night after (a recent incident).
“I can’t even let my kids play outside.”
Tea Tree Gully councillor Lucas Jones said fireworks had been let off between 10pm and 2am over the past fortnight, including the past three nights in a row.
Cr Jones said Buckley Crescent, Hartog Street and Baudin Avenue had been hot spots for the “incredibly irresponsible” behaviour which “could have disastrous consequences”.
“Letting off fireworks at 2am in the morning on people’s driveways is not on and is causing huge disruption to young families, the elderly and local wildlife,” Cr Jones said.
“While I think they council should expiate the person doing this, I also think they deserve to be referred to SA Police as what they are doing is very silly and deserve more than a $185 fine.
“It’s not like it’s happening in the middle of the country; it’s happening in a highly populated suburban streets and the residents are sick of it.”

An SA Police spokesman said reports of fireworks being set off in the Fairview Park area over the past week had been received; police would monitor the situation.
“Reports have occurred in the evening and early hours of the morning,” the spokesman said.
He said there was a maximum penalty of $5000 for the unlawful use of fireworks.
Tea Tree Gully Council has been contacted for comment.
