A THICK fog blanketing the city this morning is expected to disappear by noon.
Many Queensland residents awoke to patchy fog after a rainy weekend brought humid conditions to the state.
Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Rosa Hoff said warm air blowing in off the ocean had brought extra humidity with it, creating the perfect conditions for fog.
“The patchy fog extends right up to Cairns but will have lifted by noon,” Ms Hoff said.
Rain clouds are expected to clear out today with forecasters tipping a sunnier start to the week but that will be followed by a return to rainy, cold conditions with a morning frost possible for the hinterland areas on Wednesday.
Almost 8mm of rain fell on the Coast overnight, according to the Bureau of Meteorology’s Gold Coast Seaway monitoring station.
Today is expected to reach a top of 24 degrees with mostly sunny conditions.
The BoM is predicting showers from Thursday to Sunday.
It comes after a wet weekend.
BoM forecaster Rosa Hoff said rainfall was on track to reach the June average on the Gold Coast of 116.3mm.
“We had already recorded 31.6mm of rain for the Gold Coast Seaway this month before Sunday, so if we add yesterday’s rain to our total we are pretty much halfway, so we’re on track,” she said.
Brittney Taylor, 27, spent Saturday morning trying to let her two children Hazel, five, and Everly, two, burn some energy before the wet weather hit.
“I knew it was meant to rain this weekend and when I woke up everything was wet so I took the kids out to Emerald Lakes to have a picnic and let them get some energy out before we were trapped inside,” she said.
“It’s definitely the coldest winter we’ve had in a while on the Gold Coast.
“I don’t remember having to get out my winter clothes this early last year.”
