Those hoping for clear blue skies to greet their Christmas morning might be disappointed on Sunday with thunderstorms forecast for the Gold Coast.

But it is not all bad news.

Bureau of Meteorology metrologist Helen Reid said Christmas Day was “looking a bit showery”.

Blue skies are possible in the morning but she said it was looking “patchy”.

“There is more likely to be a thunderstorm in the afternoon,” she said.

“Have a long siesta in the afternoon and then wake up for the light display.”

Mr Reid said not a lot of rain is expected in the thunderstorm.

The temperature is expected to get up to about 27 degrees on the Gold Coast.

However, it is not good news when it comes to humidity.

“Oh, it’s going to be up there,” Ms Reid said.

Boxing Day is going to see a slight reduction in the humidity and no thunderstorms are expected, she said.
