We asked some of the Gold Coast’s most well-known faces how they will be spending this Christmas and what they are hoping to find under the tree. Here’s what they said:
Tammy Hembrow
CEO/Owner Saski, TammyFit & Tammy Hembrow Fitness
(I’ll be spending Christmas) with all of my family — I’m hosting Christmas this year for the first time ever at my house. I don’t really care about receiving gifts, I just love giving them!
Glenn Tozer
Councillor for Division 9
I’ll be celebrating with my three sons and my wife Jude this Christmas, probably in the pool and enjoying a Christmas Eve meal of traditional Hungarian food with Nagymama (grandma, on Jude’s side). (For a Christmas present) I’d like to find some happy and satisfied faces among my kids. But for me personally, a couple of new ties might be good, some chocolate bullets and maybe a winning lottery ticket so I can afford a home renovation next year.
Tony Rigas
Director of operations/co-owner of Pink Flamingo Gold Coast
I’ll be cruising the lovely waterways of the Gold Coast with family … hope it’s a nice day.
(For Christmas I’d like) my mortgage paid off … lol.
Sue Porrett
Producer/director and co-owner Pink Flamingo Gold Coast
I’ll be spending Christmas with family and hopefully an afternoon cruising the Broadwater sipping cocktails. I am hoping for a lot of things, but most of all a thoughtfully worded cards from my three teenage children.
Rob Molhoek MP
State Member for Southport
I’ll be home this Christmas - it’s the best time of the year to be on the Gold Coast. We love summer on the Coast and spending time with sons and extended family. I’d like a 5.6HP woodchipper and garden mulcher or a new spring wetsuit.
Samuel Rees
Principal IP Partnership Lawyers
Christmas starts with a mimosa and barbecue on the beach with local friends before heading off to spend the day with family. All I want for Christmas this year is a nice, hot, sunny summer with not one mention of Covid.
Aaron Wilson, JD and Nathan Zed
Ze Pickle owners
Aaron: I’ll be spending it wth my wife, two kids, family and friends. I hope to find @padre.beer (shameless plug) under the tree.
JD: I’ll be surfing the point and wishing for a rum ham.
Nathan: With family and friends. I’d like to get the whole back catalogue of early Levon Vincent 12 inches on FXHE.
Ariana Margetts
General manager CoSpaces, Southport chamber of commerce president
We’re hosting family Christmas at our house for the first time with our brand new baby – think pool swims, too much food and afternoon naps. I’d like to unwrap anything from Robert Gordon - their Australian-made pottery and ceramics pieces are a dream.
Isabella Laws
Saski general manager
This year I’m going to Noosa to be with all my extended family. My partner will also be coming and it will be our first Christmas together so I’m excited for that. I pick all my gifts from my family/partner so I know everything I’ll be getting haha.
Ali Day
Ironman
I’m spending Christmas this year on the Gold Coast. We normally head back down to Kiama, but because of racing we’re staying here. We’re really looking forward to having it here on the coast, just us, heading to the beach and eating all of the good food. My wife always spoils me. I always say I don’t need anything but she always has a few surprises for me. I’m more excited about seeing my son Danny open his presents. He’s getting excited and it’s the coolest thing.
Caroline von Bibra
Children’s book author
Christmas is a busy day for us. We open presents at home before heading to brunch with my family. We then have a midday siesta before heading to my husband’s family for dinner. My sister-in-law lived in Canada for a few years and makes the most amazing roast turkey, so that’s definitely the highlight of my culinary Christmas experience. For the past few years we’ve been doing a family Secret Santa. We draw a name from a hat and spend $20. This is my favourite present as I love seeing what my kids choose for me without any adult supervision. Let’s just say, the gift is always “interesting”.

A bike ride in the morning followed by lunch with family and friends on my son’s magnificent deck. For Christmas I’d like good health and happiness for family and friends.

I am hoping the GC turns on the weather this Christmas (especially after the year we’ve had). We’ll kick off the day early with pressies, then a swim in the ocean. It’ll be a quick dip, as we’re hosting our family for lunch. Pretty much my perfect day. I’ll probably get new PJs. I’m a creature of habit and my family thinks it’s time I retire my current rotation. I probably shouldn’t have admitted that.

My Mum Your Dad reality show contestant
(I’ll spend the day) surrounded by family with a nice barbecue, some memory sharing and lots of good food. I’d like a ticket to Anfield to watch Liverpool play.
Dylan Adams & Jenny Heath
The Block contestants
We will spend Christmas in our new house by our new pool at the Palm Beach house. Dylan is hoping for a watch and new boardies, while bikinis, activewear and clothes are on Jenny’s wishlist.

You could say I lean into Christmas — I love everything about it. The traditions, the gift giving, the festive albums on repeat. We celebrate the European way (thanks to my mum) so we open presents on Christmas Eve with drinks and plates of food. Then Christmas morning we wake to Santa’s gifts. It’s a family tradition to go for an early surf together - no matter what the waves and weather are like. Then it’s a late Christmas roast turkey lunch. I’d like to find a new pair of running shoes under the tree.

The in-laws are coming. I will be trying the whole time to avoid eye contact and a deep and meaningful chat with my mother-in-law … just joking! I love them to bits and we get on so well - I am lucky. This year will be very special and they can’t wait to show the Broadbeach bowlers how it’s done. Christmas Day is always massive and we will be at home. Morning champagne kicks us off, then food and some quiet little drinks all day, but most of all laughs like we have never laughed before. I have the sought-after task of managing the after-lunch clean-up. The day for some reason always ends up with a few of us singing. No idea why that happens. This year we will have 16 for Christmas Day lunch. Robyn, Ariarne and Mia, plus the extended family and long dear friends from Tasmania. They are just escaping the cold and making out they are only coming to see us. The best present is to be with family and friends. I just love it. The keys to a massive boat would be nice and I have put my request in, but I bet I get a bathtub one from Toyworld. The girls have been sneaking around this year and Ariarne spent time in Europe, so hopefully something that really surprises me. Could there be a photo of a boat moored in Monaco, with a card saying Dad keep dreaming? I am.

We always spend it with family, eating too much, wrangling the kids, possibly negotiating a couple of tantrums and hopefully early to bed. I feel like I have everything I need … although now that I have a toddler and a tiny baby, I’d happily accept a live-in nanny or even just four consecutive hours of sleep. C’mon Santa, work your magic.
Sally Pearson
7NEWS Gold Coast presenter and Olympic gold medallist
We will be spending Christmas with Kieran’s parents at Canungra. They have 3.5 acres with a beautiful creek out the back. If it’s hot enough we will be able to go swimming and hopefully see a turtle or a platypus or two. After that we will have a big lunch with Christmas ham and fresh salads wearing our Christmas hats out of our crackers, finished off with a cheesecake and a pavlova. I do love presents and I love gifting to other people rather than receiving. If I was to find something under the tree for me I would like it to be well thought out and from the heart.
Paul Burt
7NEWS Gold Coast Presenter & coastal expert
With my family around the Christmas tree indulging in great food, drinks and most likely seafood. I must admit I have a love of watches, so a little bird tells me Santa might be delivering a classic Bulova to my house.
Matthew Hauser
Olympic Athlete
I’ll be heading up to South Brisbane to spend Christmas Eve and day with my partner’s family before heading up to mine in Hervey Bay for some fishing and relaxing. I’m hoping to get socks and jocks because I rarely buy my own.
Nathan James
Founder CEO Fitness Cartel Australia
Mostly eating, which is why I train so hard — the constant battle to live life, enjoy food, and stay healthy. We will spend three weeks overseas with our family to recharge. I’d like a new travel bag to fit my meals in. I don’t really want for anything other than my family to be safe and well.
Chris Hutch
Independent recording artist
Like most, I will be spending it around the Christmas tree with friends and family. I love this time of year as everything for me in the chaos of Christmas actually slows down and I can focus on family first. 2023 has big things planned, so in anticipation of that I need to reserve this time at home. I know this is going to sound so lame, but I just want to be with my family this year. That will be the greatest gift. If an ARIA sneaks under (the tree) somehow from Santa, I won’t say no to that.
Les Sherrington
World boxing champion
I will be spending this Christmas with my two girls at Sandstone Point near Bribie Island at the BIG4 waterpark. I actually don’t hope to find anything under the tree this Christmas as I have everything I want already and my girls beside me so I have everything.
