GOLD Coast-Springbrook Road could remain closed for another two years after a major landslip.
The one-way section of road was closed in early May after a landslip destroyed the area and sparked emergency roadworks.
Transport and Main Roads Queensland on Friday warned Springbrook residents it could be another “18 months to two years”.
“The damage is worse than we expected,” the department wrote on social media.
“The emergency works and reconstruction will involve major activities to remove loose rocks and undertake stabilisation works.
“Once the upslope area’s stabilised, more assessments and restoration work will be needed on the road and downslope area.”
The road is the main access point between Springbrook residents and the rest of the Gold Coast.
It was shut for two years following Ex-Tropical Cyclone Debbie in 2017, forcing visitors and residents to use an alternative route almost double the length.
During the last shutdown business owners on the mountain reported a massive drop in customers and revenue.
