IT took just 36 hours to repair the main road linking the Glitter Strip to Springbrook but it could be months before a permanent solution is in place.

Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey this morning inspected Pine Creek Road where 5m of rock and soil was washed away by the flooding.

“At this stage we don’t have a time frame but that work is being completed,” he said.

The main link between the coast and Springbrook was temporarily cut following the floods with a huge chasm opening up on the road.

Mr Bailey said designs were currently being done to ensure more water could flow through the area in the case of an extreme weather event.

“We are thinking (a design) will be available in the very near future,” he said.

“As soon as we have that we will let the public know.”

Mr Bailey said works would be continuing in the Springbrook area and asked for patience and for people to obey the reduced speed limits.
