Hair by Kathy Richardson in Mermaid Beach:

“The trend right now is dimensional colour – face framing highlights, adding depth throughout with low lights and popping the ends with tip outs or basin balayage,” she said.

“The hairdressing world has become far more technical with our craftsmanship delivering low maintenance and lived in colour that require more trained skills to create a natural look.”

It’s a fantastic time to be in the industry.

“Keeping current is half the fun, connecting with like minded hairdressers through training courses and making friends in our industry.

“I love watching Instagram and hair tutorials or inspiration too.

“Ohh as to old trends I hope to never see streaking caps as they showed no creativity and were brutally painful.

“These though I doubt will come back,” Ms Richardson said.

Elise Rae Hair Studio in Mermaid Beach:

“We are getting a lot of inspo from Margot Robbie’s latest British Vogue cover,” she said.

“Everyone is loving getting back to more of their natural colour, with some great soft bangs and fringes.

“I think keeping up with the trends is very important, whether it is gaining trends from overseas or local salons.

“Having worked all over the world I many different salons I find it quite easy to adapt to the latest trends.

“To be honest, I always said I hope mullets didn’t come back into fashion, but to be honest, some of the mullets going around at the moment are funky! So never say never,” Ms Rae said.

Kaylee Maree Hairdressing in Varsity Lakes:

“Currently we are seeing lots of face framing,” she said.

“This is foiling techniques around the hairline and around the face to give the colour a little bit of pop.

“Whether the client is already blonde and they’re brightening the areas around the face or for darker colours and giving themselves some caramel highlights around the face to give dark hair some contrast or interest.

“This also allows for less maintenance on Balayage colours and can give nice dimension to hair.

“Different hair trends tend to change both seasonally and yearly the best way to keep up for myself as a hairdresser is attend lots of education.

“I’ve been hairdressing a long time so perming is definitely a thing of the past and should not come back into fashion anytime soon,” Ms Maree said.

Charvel Edwards from Hair by Charvel:

“The trend right now is a lot of movement and volume in the hair,” Ms Edwards said.

“Trends change the moment someone influential does something new with their hair.

“Trends that I don’t like are the two chunky front pieces that are usually blonde, I think it’s a bit too much.

“More of a subtle face frame is nice, some people do pull it off though!

“The best thing about hairdressing for me is the relationship with my clients.

“I think the reason why i’ve been able to grow such a big clientele all on my own is because I focus on building trust and relationships.

“That’s the key to any successful business,” she said.

Charvel Edwards says trends change as soon as someone influential does something with their hair. This is one of Hair by Charvel’ hair clients.
