MOVIE STARS
MARGOT ROBBIE
The Hollywood actor was born in 1990 in Dalby, but grew up on the Gold Coast, living in Southport and attending Somerset College in Mudgeeraba.
Her career took off in 2008 when he was casted on Neighbours to play Donna Freedman.
After three years on the show, Robbie got a gig on The Wolf of Wall Street alongside Leonardo DiCaprio. She has since had lead roles in dozens of major blockbusters.
Robbie regularly returns to the Gold Coast and even wined and dined at Nineteen at The Star.
Her net worth is $22 million.
RACHEL GRIFFITHS
The movie star lived at Mermaid Beach until she was five and would return each year to holiday.
Griffiths grew up in Melbourne and was casted in a supporting role in Aussie classic Muriel’s Wedding, shot in Coolangatta in 1994. She has starred in 62 other productions.
In 2019, she directed her first film Ride Like A Girl, depicting the journey of Melbourne Cup-winning jockey Michelle Payne. The film made US$11.5 million.

STEFAN DENNIS
Most of us call him by his character’s name Paul Robinson after his long-running stint on Aussie TV soap Neighbours.
Dennis was born in Victoria but spent most of his childhood on the Gold Coast, attending Southport State High School.
CHRIS HEMSWORTH
Thor was born in Melbourne in 1983. Like most Aussie actors, he made his break on TV series Home and Away, performing as Kim Hyde from 2004-2007.
He lived in Los Angeles until 2015 when he returned home and built a mega-mansion in Byron Bay.
His net worth is estimated to be $130 million.

INFLUENCERS
TAMMY HEMBROW
The 26-year-old fitness influencer and mother of two became well-known in 2013 after documenting her fitness journey online.
She boasts 11.5 million Instagram followers and has her own activewear clothing company and online fitness business.
Hembrow rubbed shoulders with the famed US reality TV family the Karadashian-Jenners in 2018 and even attended Kylie Jenner’s 21st birthday party.
ASHY BINES
Ashy Bines attended school at Tweed River High School. The social media influencer, 32, came to prominence in 2012 after starting a fitness bootcamp called Ashy Bines Bikini Body Challenge.
HANNAH POLITES
The social media influencer was born in Melbourne, but her family moved to the Gold Coast when she was 11.
The 29-year-old became well-known online in 2012 when she documented her life and fitness journey. She lives in Mermaid Beach with her husband Grant Small and their two children.

EMILY SKYE
Emily Skye, 35, has worked as a model for most of her life but attention grew in 2011 when she gained a social media following by sharing her meals and workouts online.
She moved to the Gold Coast in 2013 and has an estimated network of $35 million.
ARTISTS
IGGY AZALEA
Amethyst Amelia Kelly, 30, was born in Sydney and raised in Mullumbimby.
She left school after graduating from Year 10, at age 16, to move to the US to pursue a music career.
She became famous in 2014 for her rap album The New Classic.
CODY SIMPSON
Simpson became an internet sensation with his covers of songs by Jason Mraz and Justin Timberlake, and was signed to Atlantic Records in 2009 at the age of 12.
He attended All Saints Anglican School in Merrimac before moving to the US at age 13 with his family.
Most recently, Simpson had dated Hollywood pop star Miley Cyrus, but they called it quits in August.

KRISTY HINZE
Born on the Gold Coast in 1979, Kristy rose to become one of the city’s most famous models and television hosts.
She grew up in the Gold Coast Hinterland and at age 14 featured in Australian Vogue.
The granddaughter of former Queensland MP Russ Hinze went on to appear in Sports Illustrated magazine and Victoria’s Secret catalogues.
She’s been married to billionaire Jim Clark since 2009.
JESINTA CAMPBELL (NOW FRANKLIN)
Jesinta Campbell, 29, was born and raised on the Gold Coast, attending Aquinas College in Southport.
She turned heads in 2010 winning the Miss Universe Australia title at age 19. She was later 2nd Runner-Up at Miss Universe.
Campbell has gone on to be a model, TV host and author. In 2016, she married famed AFL player Lance “Buddy” Franklin.
SPORTS STARS
MICK FANNING
The three-time world surfing champion was born in Penrith in 1981 before moving to Tweed Heads at 12.
After attending Palm Beach Currumbin State High School, he hit the road to compete around the world. In 2007 he won several of the world’s biggest surfing titles, including the Quiksilver Pro and his first ASP World Tour crown.
In 2015, Fanning fought off a shark during a surf event at J-Bay, South Africa.
In 2016, he founded one of the city’s best brewing companies Balter Brewing.
He retired from surfing in 2018.
The 39-year-old still lives on the Gold Coast with his partner Breeana Randall. The couple celebrated the birth of Xander Dean Fanning in August.
STEPHANIE GILMORE
The seven-time world surfing champion was born in Murwillumbah and grew up in Kingscliff. The 32-year-old spent most of her time surfing at Coolangatta. Gilmore rose to widespread fame in 2005, at age 17, by winning the Roxy Pro on the Gold Coast.
JOEL PARKINSON
“Parko” was born in Nambour on the Sunshine Coast in 1981 before moving to the Gold Coast in 1992.
He attended Palm Beach Currumbin High School.
He retired in 2018 age 39 after an impressive 18-year surfing career at the top level.
He still lives on the Gold Coast with his wife Monica and three children.
RENEE GRACIE
The Surfers Paradise woman became the first full-time female driver in Supercars history in 2015.
She stepped down in 2017 and joined adult subscription platform OnlyFans, where she says she can make up to $500,000 a month.
MICK DOOHAN
The former motorcycling ace was born on the Gold Coast in 1965.
He led an impressive career from 1989 to 1999, winning five consecutive 500cc world titles.
Doohan, 55, now sells corporate jets and runs a business providing aviation series.
CASEY STONER
The retired professional motorcycle racer was born in Southport in 1985 and moved to the UK when he was young to pursue a career in racing.
He won the MotoGP World Championship in 2007 and 2011 before retiring in 2012, age 27.
POLITICIANS
TOM TATE
Tom Tate was born in 1959 in Laos. He moved to Sydney to be with his Australian father in 1970.
In 1980, Tate had a full head of hair and was studying to be a qualified civil engineer.
He moved to the Gold Coast afterwards and started a career in construction before moving into the tourism and hospitality industry. Tate has been mayor of the Gold Coast since 2012.
He’s been married to his wife Ruth for almost 40 years and they have four children.
CLIVE PALMER
Believe it or not the former mining mogul was a teenage sprint champion.
He was born in Victoria in 1954 before moving to Queensland in 1963.
He has owned some of Australia’s biggest businesses.
Palmer created the Palmer United Party in April 2013 and de-registered in May 2017.
