A worker has been rushed to hospital with serious injuries after he was knocked from a ledge at a Gold Coast construction site.

The man in his 60s fell more than four metres into a narrow pit at the worksite on Garrack Street, Coolangatta about 11am on Thursday. He sustained significant and deep lacerations.

Glen Stewart from the Queensland Ambulance Service said firefighters were called to assist with the rescue effort to free the trapped patient.

“It’s certainly was a unique incident that I have not experienced in my working career,” Mr Stewart said.

“Using the expertise of Queensland Fire and Emergency Services we were able to extricate him with the use of a man cage.”

The man was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
