Gold Coasters are about to see a lot more of actor Travis Fimmel with Stan announcing season two of the hit show Black Snow will be filmed in the city.

The original series premiered on January 1, 2023, featuring the Boy Swallows Universe and Vikings star alongside Jemmason Power and Talijah Blackman-Corowa.

The City of Gold Coast, Screen Queensland and Screen NSW will financially support the production, with Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate saying he was proud “almost all” of the second season would be filmed locally.

“We have created an environment where film and television directors, as well as industry investors, have the confidence in our city to deliver amazing locations as well as highly talented crew,” he said.

Black Snow’s first season was set in a small Far North Queensland town where a time capsule was unearthed at a high school and the secrets of an unsolved murder of one of its students unravelled.

Season two will see Fimmel return as Detective Cormack tackling two separate missing person cases.

“One is professional as he investigates the disappearance of Zoe Jacobs, who disappeared from her own 21st birthday party in 2003,” the announcement from Stan said.

“And the other is personal as Cormack searches desperately for his own younger brother who went missing when they were children.”

Stan original series Good Cop/Bad Cop will also begin filming in Queensland this month.

The comedic series stars Gossip Girl lead Leighton Meester and Clancy Brown as a sister and brother detective team contending with “colourful residents, a serious lack of resources and their very complicated dynamic”.

Jungle Entertainment executive producer Chloe Rickard said some scenes would be shot in the Scenic Rim.

“(It is) the perfect idyllic small-town look for our story — somewhere we hope to return to for many seasons ,” she said.

“These lush natural environments have drawn us to the state.”

Ms Rickard said they had a studio partnership with Gold Coast-based Village Roadshow Studios and a “rich pool” of “highly talented Queensland cast and crew”.

Good Cop/Bad Cop was secured by Screen Queensland through the Queensland Government’s Production Attraction Strategy and will inject an estimated $14.4 million into the economy, creating close to 200 employment opportunities.

Meanwhile, Mr Tate said council was in the final stages of choosing the successful tender for the new Yatala Film Production precinct.

“This 75ha precinct will include world-class studios, post production facilities, sound stages and associated infrastructure,” he said.

“When finished, it will establish our city as the No. 1 film and television destination outside of Hollywood.”

Mr Tate said the film industry brought around $600 million to the Gold Coast economy annually.

“I want to see that exceed $1 billion annually.”
