The owners of a popular restaurant at Nobby Beach have opened a sister venue on the beachfront in a booming southern suburb.
Trent and Leisha Scarr – who operate Nobby Beach stalwart Ally Chow – launched Billy Chow in Kirra on Thursday night.
Mr Scarr said more than 60 people attended the opening with a mix of Ally Chow ‘fans’ and new customers.
“The opening was amazing,” he said.
“Gazing at the Kirra ocean as the sun goes down. The atmosphere was magical.”
Mr Scarr said they had always had the vision to open another venue, but Covid-19 had delayed their plans.
“There will never be anything like Ally Chow – people love the atmosphere in that place,” he said.
While the new venue has already proven a hit with locals, Mr Scarr assured diners that “Ally will always be a part of the dining scene” at Nobby Beach.
Billy Chow opened the same night as Kirra Beach House, part of the first stage of a $380m Kirra Point Precinct development.
“Kirra is booming with so many developments and we are lucky to have found one of the last remaining beachfront spots around,” Mr Scarr said.
“We are very excited to watch how Kirra will evolve over the next few years.”
Mr Scarr said Billy Chow would showcase some of the menu stars from Ally Chow.
“The most popular items on opening night were our signature wagyu katsu handmade bao bun with parmesan custard and house barbecue sauce, and our ocean trout handmade crumpets with XO butter,” he said.
“Cocktails (were also popular) with our signature coco chilli margs and cherry blossom sours.”
Billy Chow is open seven nights at 76 Musgrave Street, Kirra.
