What happens when you are charged with a crime?

A former international Muay Thai fighter left a 57-year-old woman with a broken wrist and punched her daughter in the face during a late-night fight.

Odin Christopher Daniels also destroyed a gate outside a Labrador home on August 22 last year.

The court was told Daniels and his girlfriend walked another woman to the house after drinking at the Grand Hotel.

When they arrived there was a confrontation about bringing strange people to the home.

Daniels and his girlfriend were asked to leave and were locked on the other side of a metal gate.

After he left Daniels realised his girlfriend was still in the home and began to kick the gate.

Three adults tried to brace themselves against the gate but Daniels kicked it down, causing the 57-year-old woman to fall to the ground and break her wrist.

The court was told Daniels then punched her 35-year-old daughter in the face.

Magistrate Kay Philipson placed him on 18 months’ probation and ordered he pay $500 in compensation to the mother. No conviction was recorded.

“It is quite concerning to me that your actions have resulted in two women sustaining significant injuries,” she said.

“It might be that because of your Muay Thai you had more strength in your legs than you thought.”

Defence lawyer Ross Oden said it was an incident that was “borne out of an altruistic endeavour, albeit one that has gone astray”.

“My client was in a rage and he was not thinking properly,” he said.

He said Daniels had previously competed overseas in Muay Thai events.
