Free mouth-watering spuds and $12 whole flame-grilled chickens will be served up as two new fast food restaurants open in the booming northern Gold Coast.

Cult favourite Mr Potato will have its grand opening at Upper Coomera Village on Saturday, April 9.

Expect a spud frenzy with free potatoes up for grabs between noon and 3pm.

The eatery - already popular in South Australia - has put a modern spin on the traditional baked potato and also offers gluten-free, vegan, vegetarian and low sugar options.

Mr Potato already has a store in Palm Beach - with others coming soon to Burleigh Heads and Broadbeach.

If you’re after a bit more protein in your diet - iconic fast food joint Oporto has opened a new store at Home Focus Pimpama in response to what the company described as “rising customer demand for delicious flame-grilled Portuguese chicken.”

To celebrate, the Pimpama store will serve up $12 whole chickens all day on Monday, April 11 and run daily deals until Sunday, April 17.

Pimpama franchisee owner Nagarjun Yadla said he was excited to open another store after 13 years with the franchise.

“Having started as a back-of-house team member in 2009 and working up to my first store in 2018, I’m very proud to start this new adventure with Pimpama and introduce locals to our great range of fresh, authentic Portuguese flavours,” Mr Yadla said.
