As the whale watching season kicks off, flocks of humpbacks on their annual migration will be a welcome sight – along with the Coast’s favourite visitor Migaloo.
The first known public sighting of Migaloo was in 1992.
Migaloo was not spotted again until 1998 when he appeared on the Queensland coast, rising from the water more than 60km north of Hervey Bay.
His appearances became more frequent, turning up again in 1999 and 2000.
Today the return of the white whale is the highlight of the whale watching season for many.
