Humpback whales spotted in Gold Coast Seaway

LOCALS were treated to a rare event today with a pair of whales spotted within the Gold Coast Seaway having a ‘nosy’.

After catching some whale action at sunrise from their fishing boat, locals Nick Lambart and Shaun Eldridge were pleasantly surprised to find a curious pair of whales moseying about the Seaway around 11.30 this morning as they headed back in.

“I’ve never seen them in the Seaway before,” Mr Lambart said, adding they just looked like they were having a “nosy on through.”

“They were there for about an hour ... they headed up to Wave Break Island and turned back.”

He said the boat in the video had no idea the whales were there as they headed back into the Seaway.

“They didn’t realise whales were in front of them,” he said.

“We just kept our distance.”
