A pair of native bush turkeys have been spotted on the Gold Coast impaled by arrows, sparking an urgent search by wildlife authorities.
The birds were sighted on Mudgeeraba’s Berrigans Rd recently with the RSPCA now hoping to find the injured birds.
“This new case of animal cruelty is currently under investigation and RSPCA Queensland is working with Wildcare so the birds can be rescued and receive urgent veterinary care,” the RSPCA said in a statement.
“We cannot stress enough that not only is it illegal to shoot our wildlife and inflict deliberate pain and suffering on animals, but you will also face jail time and fines when caught.”
The RSPCA pointed to a February case of a peacock which was shot with an arrow on The Panorama in Tallai. It had to be euthanised when it couldn’t be saved.
