The Gold Coast’s number one hairdresser has listed the top six tricks you need to start doing to have healthy hair.

Rylee O’Grady, 22, from BW Studios in Surfers Paradise, was recently voted by Bulletin readers as this year’s best hairdresser on the Gold Coast.

Ms O’Grady said she started her hairdressing journey when she was 16 and it has been her “biggest passion ever since”.

The extensions, blonde specialist and colour transformation expert said she focuses on hair health.

“It’s such a huge part of what I stand for and something I never compromise on,” Ms O’Grady said.

These are her top six hair health tips:

• “Invest in a good home care routine that’s suited to your hair type and colour. If you’re blonde, ask your stylist to recommend a personalised regimen. Blonde hair needs extra love, and the right products at home make a huge difference.”

• “Find a hairdresser who cares about both results and the health of your hair. Achieving your dream look should never come at the cost of long-term damage.”

• “Be patient with the process. Especially with blonding or bleach work, most of my girls spend half the day with me, and their hair has never been healthier!”

• “Start oiling your hair daily, morning and night. It’s one of the simplest but most underrated ways to maintain moisture, reduce breakage, and support long-term growth.”

• “Book regular hydrating treatments to keep your hair nourished and strong.”

• “Keep up with trims, even if you’re growing your hair, this helps prevent split ends from travelling up the hair shaft.”

Ms O’Grady said she felt “honoured” to be receiving the title after her colleague took out the top spot last year.

“I remember last year not even making the top 50 for best hairdresser and this year, I’ve won the title,” she said.

“It’s been a journey.”

Alyssia from Toni and Guy in Broadbeach was the runner-up and Bec from Ananta Hair and Beauty in Oxenford took out third place.
