A 26-year-old Ipswich drug addict who used a car to ram-raid a Thirsty Camel bottle shop just for a single bottle of booze was shooting up ice five times a day, a court has heard.
Timothy Triston Horne, 26, pleaded guilty in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Thursday to 27 charges including four counts of enter premises and commit an indictable offence by break, six charges of stealing and two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
The court heard the young Wulkuraka man committed the offences over a period of six months from December 2020 to May 2021 throughout the areas of Ipswich, Brisbane and Logan.
This included an incident on May 5 where Horne used a car to ram-raid and gain entry to the Thirsty Camel at Brassel.
The court heard CCTV footage of the incident shows a vehicle driving into the shopping centre before reversing up into the shop and Horne leaving with a single bottle of alcohol.
There are also an array of offences from an incident that took place in Chuwar on April 1 including driving under the influence, possessing dangerous drugs, driving without a license disqualified by court order, driving an unregistered and uninsured motor vehicle, offences involving registration certificates.
Horne’s lawyer told the court her client started to “muck up” as a child after his parent’s divorce in 2005 and he began smoking weed at age 12 before he began doing ice in 2013.
“He is significantly addicted to drugs … he instructs me that ultimately the reason for his offending is to obtain money to be able to afford his drug habit,” she said.
“Just prior to going back into custody he instructs me he was injecting ice up to five times a day.”
He was sentenced to two years imprisonment with an immediate parole eligibility date and disqualified from driving for two years.
