A Logan area stepfather’s disgraceful sexual video recording of his own 10-month-old stepson, has seen him jailed for several years.

Beenleigh District Court heard on April 16 that a 27-year-old man’s home was raided after he was being monitored by Federal Police over suspicions of child exploitation material.

On July 20, 2022 police found 358 videos and 49 images on his devices.

The man, who cannot be named, was later found with a video of him sexually assaulting his 10-month-old stepson orally for 30 seconds.

There was a second video that lasted 10 seconds of the same despicable act, and he had recorded both videos himself.

The court heard police discovered he was also sharing child exploitation material he had found through a messaging application.

He had uploaded 228 videos over a three-month period in 2022.

The 27-year-old pleaded guilty to making child exploitation material (domestic violence offence), distributing child exploitation material, possessing child exploitation material and three counts of indecent treatment of a child under 12.

Crown prosecutor Sam Rigby was scathing of the defendant’s disturbing behaviour.

“It was invasive, utterly abhorrent and depraved,” he said.

“The gravity of this offending is extremely serious and is aggravated by him recording it then remaining in possession of the material, then hiding it on his mobile phone.

“They weren’t isolated, they happened months apart and during this time he was distributing other child exploitation material online

“This is a significant breach of trust, offences against his own vulnerable infant stepson and is not a victimless crime.”

Defence barrister David Funch said his client had a minor criminal history and blamed his behaviour on drug use.

The court heard the stepfather was using meth, Xanax, codeine and DMT during the offending.

Judge Nicholas Andreatidis said the offending was disgraceful and appalling.

“Your behaviour was so abhorrent and so disgraceful that if I was permitted to put you in prison for a very long time, I would,” he said.

“You’re obviously a risk to society and you breached the child’s trust.”

He was sentenced to five years and six months prison, eligible for parole after serving a third of the term.

The date he will be eligible for parole lands on February 12, 2026.

The man had spent one day in pre-sentence custody.
