A Logan disability support worker was found by police with more than a gram of methamphetamine and evidence of a planned drug deal gone wrong, a court has heard.

A Logan disability support worker was found by police with more than a gram of methamphetamine and evidence of a planned drug deal, gone wrong, a court has heard.

Kristy Lee Innes, 36, pleaded guilty in Beenleigh District Court on April 15 to one count of possessing a schedule one dangerous drug and one count of supplying a schedule one dangerous drug.

The court heard the Logan Central woman’s home was raided by police on September 23, 2022 and she hid in the backyard in an effort to avoid the officers.

Innes was found by cops and taken into custody where she attempted to flush 1.6g of methamphetamine down the toilet.

Officers found the drug and then found evidence of an arranged drug deal in her text messages.

“I only just reloaded do you still want me to send you a gram?” a text message said.

The court heard the lengths Innes went to in order to conceal the drug were an aggravating factor in her sentencing.

Innes worked as a disability support worker and aimed to work as a support worker for troubled youths.

She had a minor criminal history and had not reoffended since her arrest.

Judge Nicholas Andreatidis said meth was a major concern to the community and needed to be met with punishment by the courts.

“I accept your remorse and you acknowledged your behaviour was stupid,” he said.

“We see the damage in society the supply of drugs does.

“I understand you hope to work with troubled youths as a support worker and I hope you use your history to help others.”

Innes was sentenced to 12 months prison, wholly suspended for 12 months.

She had already served 18 days in pre-sentence custody.
