A Brisbane schoolteacher charged with more than 35 child sexual offences for allegedly grooming a girl, has asked the court to allow her to see her own children.

A Brisbane southside schoolteacher charged with more than 35 child sexual offences for allegedly grooming a girl, has asked the court to allow her to see her own children.

Kellie Ann-Marie Baynham, 43, was stood down from her teaching position at Carinity Education Southside earlier this month but was not working there at the time of the alleged offending.

She has been charged with 34 counts of indecent treatment of a child under 16, one count of exposing to a child under 16 and one count of grooming for an alleged sexual relationship with a girl.

A brief of evidence has been ordered.

The mother of three faced Beenleigh Magistrates Court on March 25 for an application to have her bail varied.

The court heard Ms Baynham was not allowed to see her own children under her current bail conditions and wanted that restriction amended.

Magistrate Terry Duroux approved the bail variation and she will next appear in court for mention on May 25.

Police allege Ms Baynham developed a relationship with a 12-year-old girl in 2015 and began having sex with her.

A statement from a Queensland police spokesperson said “investigations commenced last month following information provided to police about alleged offences that occurred between June 2015 and March 2023”.

Police allege Ms Baynham began messaging the girl over Instagram as well as meeting in public toilets.

They also allegedly engaged in sexual conversations over text and shared naked photographs.

Ms Baynham was stood down from her current role following the allegations and a spokesperson from her school said appropriate pre-employment screenings were conducted prior to her joining Carinity.

Kellie Whiteside, nee Baynham, has been charged with over 35 offences following investigations into alleged historical child indecent treatment offences.

“As soon as the employee’s registration with the Queensland College of Teachers was suspended, the teacher was suspended without pay awaiting the outcome of the charges,” said a Carinity spokesperson.

“During the employee’s tenure with Carinity Southside, no claims of inappropriate behaviour towards students have been received and no inappropriate behaviour towards students suspected.”
