A religious pastor, a young father and a teacher who targeted a child 22 years younger than her are among those who have recently fronted court in Brisbane for their shocking sexual crimes.

Customer service worker Jamie Ryan Austin groomed a vulnerable schoolgirl online by sending her explicit photos and videos.

He appeared in Brisbane District Court and pleaded guilty to using the internet to procure children under 16 and intentionally meeting a child and grooming a child aged under 16 and exposing them to indecent matter.

The court heard that the Drewvale man sent multiple pictures of his penis, including him masturbating, to a 13-year-old girl online even though she told him to stop.

The girl sent him a few naked selfies upon request before meeting up with him in person and bringing her friend along who became concerned and told her mother.

The court was told that he wrote an apology letter to the girl’s parents.

Austin was sentenced in July 2024 to a wholly-suspended 18 months jail term, suspended for two years, with a conviction recorded for the first offence and to two years’ probation for grooming.

Mikhail Caplygin

Management consultant Mikhail Caplygin’s ex-wife found a disturbing child exploitation material stash in his hard drive when they separated.

Caplygin faced one count of possessing, and second count of distributing child exploitation material in Brisbane District Court in October last year.

When the couple’s marriage broke down after eight years, Caplygin asked for his hard drive to be returned, prompting his then-wife to access the drive where 293 incriminating photos and 40 videos were found, the court heard.

His former wife was not accused of any wrongdoing.

The court was told that Caplygin made significant efforts to rehabilitate himself and showed genuine remorse.

Caplygin was sentenced to six months’ jail, suspended for a year.

Brisbane father David Eduardo Cubilla was found with more than 1700 child abuse images when police were investigating him for an unrelated fraud crime that he was also convicted of.

He pleaded guilty at Brisbane District Court to using a carriage service to access child abuse material and possessing or controlling child abuse material obtained or accessed using a carriage service.

Police found him possessing three torrent files with 56 child abuse images at his home, after he deleted 1760 incriminating images and videos, including some depicting real children engaging in sexual acts.

Judge Paul Smith acknowledged Cubilla had a good work history, along with the support of his wife and children.

In June 2024 he received a head sentence of seven years’ jail, with parole eligibility on June 11, 2026.

James Goodall

Counter-terrorism officer James Christopher Goodall engaged in years-long sexually exploitative online conduct with a child before he joined the Australian Federal Police.

The 29-year-old pleaded guilty in Brisbane District Court in April to using a carriage serviced to procure a person under 16 to engage in sexual activity, using a carriage service to cause child pornography material to be transmitted to self and using a carriage service to cause child abuse material to be transmitted to self.

The court heard that as a 21-year-old he met with a 13-year-old child online and started a highly sexualised conversation, as he requested videos from the victim that included her naked and performing sexual acts.

The offending lasted for three years, months before he commenced his police career.

The court was told that Goodall demonstrated a serious error of judgment in choosing to re-engage and reoffend during the three-year period.

Goodall was sentenced to three years and six months with a non-parole period of nine months.

Shawn Innis

Brisbane tradie Shawn Joseph Innis has become a reportable offender after facing court for filming child exploitation material.

The Petrie Terrace painter pleaded guilty to one count of making child exploitation material, one count of indecent treatment of a child under 12 years old and two counts of possessing child exploitation material in Beenleigh District Court in September 2024.

The court heard that the then 35-year-old was arrested because of an unrelated offence and provided police with the passcode to his mobile phone, where investigators identified multiple child exploitation materials including a 12-second video of a female child around five years of age.

The video showed the girl’s bare bottom with Innis stroking the child’s face and back.

Police revealed 411 child exploitation images and 130 videos in which some included children having sex acts.

The court was told that he had mental health and drug issues.

He was sentenced to three years’ jail, suspended after 460 days he spent in pre-sentence custody, and three years of probation.

Convictions were all recorded, meaning Innis became a reportable offender.

Former Education Department and Corrective Services worker Damian Craig Jackson was caught with more than 2000 child exploitation material files.

The Upper Kedron man, who was Personalised Plates Queensland’s principal architect until he was charged, pleaded guilty to using a carriage service to access child abuse material and possessing child exploitation material in Brisbane District Court in January.

Police raided his Upper Kedron home in 2023 and seized a laptop that contained 1741 unique child abuse images and 129 videos depicting child exploitation material, the court heard.

His offending spanned over five days, involving 619 images and 108 videos of the worst category.

The court was told that Jackson was remorseful and understood that this was not a victimless crime.

Jackson was sentenced to 18 months’ jail, suspended after four months, two years of probation and a three-year $500 good behaviour bond.

Fofee Kollie

Aspiring semi-professional football player Fofee Kollie raped a woman after taking advantage of his friend and the female victim who were having consensual sex at the time.

The court heard the victim was having consensual sex with Kollie’s friend in a home in Brisbane’s southern suburbs, when Kollie took his place in penetrating the woman.

The aspiring semi-professional football player pleaded guilty to the charge in Brisbane District Court in November 2024.

The court was told that he was “moderately affected by alcohol” at the time and stopped drinking after the incident.

He was sentenced to five-and-a-half years’ jail but will be eligible for parole on May 6, 2026.

Raymond Lancaster

Raymond Liam Lancaster was found with more than 1300 images and videos involving child exploitation in an investigation for child sex offences which he has since been convicted of.

He pleaded guilty to possessing child exploitation material in Brisbane District Court in August 2024.

The court heard nearly 1200 images and 150 videos included children being torture, raped, involved in bestiality, and sex involving deceased children.

The court was told that Lancaster was grappling with mental health issues at the time of offending but engaged with sexual offender programs and probation because of his previous conviction.

Lancaster was sentenced to 18 months jail, wholly suspended for two and a half years.

Arman Mahboobi

IT specialist Arman Mahboobi has been found with nearly 5000 child exploitation files and a detailed 170-page guide to luring child victims for sex.

The Springfield man pleaded guilty to a string of child-related offences including indecent treatment of a child under 16 and using a carriage service to transmit, make available, publish, distribute, advertise or promote child abuse material in Ipswich District Court in June 2024.

The court heard that police discovered more than 4600 images and videos of children as young as three years old at his home after tracking his IP address through a peer-to-peer sharing network.

Mahboobi also took about 10 indecent photos of a family friend’s child who was staying in his house.

The court was told that he was described by his psychologist as having “pornography addiction” which had affected his relationship with his wife.

He was sentenced to jail for two and a half years, suspended after eight months, and two years of probation following his release.

Grant Motley

Former millionaire tradie Grant James Motley has sexually abused multiple children including at shopping centres.

He pleaded guilty to five counts of indecent treatment of a child under 16, including one under 12, two counts each of stalking and common assault and one count each of indecent act in public and failing to hand over his phone’s passcode to police in Brisbane District Court in March 2025.

The court heard that he asked a 10-year-old girl to put her hand down her underwear and approached her again five years later for masturbating videos.

He also approached two girls in a shopping centre and touched their hips before being charged.

When he was released on bail, he continued to stalk two children, causing them to feel anxious in public space.

The court was told that Motley ran a successful electrical company before turning to drugs after the millionaire kingdom collapsed.

He was sentenced to three years and nine months’ jail with parole eligibility set on March 21 - the day of sentencing, taking into account the 496 days Motley has been in prison.

Religious pastor Charles Nyarko has sexually assaulted a woman that he first met together with his wife.

The Pentecostal predator faced two counts of sexual assault at Brisbane District Court in February 2025.

The court heard Nyarko met the woman on the street together with his wife and gave her a pamphlet before talking about church.

He then texted the woman, who was in her early 20s, a bible message almost every day and made plans to meet up with her.

The woman was expecting Nyarko to show up with his wife, but he came alone and tightly hugged her in which she could feel his penis through his pants.

He then kissed her aggressively and licked the bottom of her face as the woman closed her eyes when she was praying.

He pulled her close, kissed her more aggressively and grabbed her breast as the woman tried to move away from him but she froze and began shaking.

The court heard that he apologised for his offending a short time after it occurred.

He was sentenced to six months’ jail, wholly suspended, and was ordered to pay $5000 to the victim as compensation.

Mark Pashley-Partridge

Former banker Mark Thomas Pashley-Partridge has been involved in a string of offences which involved children as young as three years old.

He pleaded guilty in May 2024 to 10 offences including using a carriage service to transmit, access, make available, possess or control and solicit child abuse material, using carriage service to transmit child pornography, using carriage service to cause child abuse material to be transmitted to self and three counts of using carriage service to groom a person under 16 years.

The offending spanned over two years and included 927 child abuse material images and videos and transmitted material depicting children aged three to 12.

He accessed upskirting photographs of girls aged six, 10 and 12 taken at Southbank as they climbed the Brisbane sign, and accessed videos involving the rape of five, six and 12 year old girls.

He also groomed three people online who he believed to be children under 16 years of age, but in fact one was actually an adult.

His online conversation with 22 other predators who included parents abusing their own children.

His wife had her physical and mental health deteriorate to the point that she needed a carer.

The court was told that his solicitation of child abuse material did not amount to an intention that such abuse would actually occur.

He was sentenced to four years’ jail with a non parole eligibility period of one year and four months.

Suspended paramedic Mark Shane Roche has been jailed after depicting himself masturbating to child exploitation material.

He pleaded guilty last week to using a carriage service to access child abuse material and two counts of making child exploitation material in Brisbane District Court.

The court heard that Roche accessed 12 images involving child victims as young as four years old, in which one depicted raping a girl.

While he was released on bail, police found a journal at his home with “highly explicit stories” about the rape and sexual assault of young children.

The court was told Roche began the “journalling” at the suggestion of a psychologist treating him for severe childhood trauma.

The court also heard he was suspended from his Queensland Ambulance Services position for 18 years after he was arrested in 2022.

He was sentenced to two-and-a-half-years jail, suspended after four months, and was ordered to enter a $500 good behaviour bond, alongside two years of probation.

Daniel John Rynenberg, the son of millionaire insurance broker Greg Rynenberg, has offered hundreds of dollars worth of PlayStation gift cards to pre-teen boys for nude photos.

Daniel Rynenberg pleaded guilty to four counts of using the internet to procure a child under 16 and three counts of indecent treatment in Brisbane District Court.

The court heard his offending towards four boys spanned over four months as he told one of them they should send him a photo if he trusted him and wanted to be his special friend.

Defence barrister Tim Ryan told the court his client has lifelong intellectual disability and “extremely low” IQ, but his father stepped in and monitored his phone after the offences.

Daniel Rynenberg was sentenced to 15 months’ jail, suspended for three years, and three years of probation.

Sidney Shanks

Economist Sidney Ricky Bassett Shanks has been jailed after he admitted to operating a social media account that includes images of deepfake child exploitation material.

The bureaucrat, who worked for Queensland Treasury and the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet, pleaded guilty to one count each of possessing, making and distributing child exploitation material, three counts of indecent treatment of children under 16, and two counts of stalking at Brisbane District Court in November 2024.

The court heard police raided his home and located about 730 incriminating images and 27 videos.

The Coorparoo man also operated several social media accounts displaying images of women in bikinis and sexualised positions whose faces were replaced with his adult female neighbour and a child.

The court was told that he was suspended with pay from Queensland Treasury before he resigned and submitted a letter of apology alongside a number of character references.

Shanks was jailed for three years, suspended after he served six months in custody.

Emily Jean Taylor-Renolds had sex with a 13-year-old boy in front of her then partner before the couple made a false rape compliant against him.

She pleaded guilty to aggravated supply of dangerous drugs to a minor, carnal knowledge with or of children, involving children in making child exploitation material and three counts of indecent treatment of a child at Brisbane’s Supreme Court.

The court heard the then 27-year-old had sex with the child upon request of her then twisted psychopathic partner, despite the boy’s initial refusal.

The couple also had sex in front of him with some of the activity filmed.

The court heard that she was remorseful after police interviewed the boy following the false complaint.

The child detailed in a victim impact statement how his ability to trust others was destroyed, leading to prolonged homelessness, drug use and self harm.

The court heard that the then partner was the evil driving force in the case as he used threats and violence to coerce Taylor-Renolds to participate in illegal activities.

She was sentenced to two years’ jail suspended and one year of probation.

Former teacher Kellie Ann-Marie Whiteside sexually abused a little girl from the age of 12 before her career.

She pleaded guilty in Brisbane District Court in March to repeated sexual conduct with a child from 2015 to 2018 before taking up the teaching position.

The child was particularly vulnerable at the time due to personal issues, in which she did not understand when Whiteside told her to watch porn to learn sex.

The court heard Whiteside was a mature woman at the time of the offending, having a 22-year age gap with her victim.

Barrister James McNab said his client was genuinely remorseful, had no criminal history, co-operated with police, pleaded guilty early and would not work as a teacher again.

She was sentenced to five years’ jail, with parole eligible from March 17, 2027.
