A convicted child sex offender has faced court for a “depraved” stash of child exploitation material, which included bestiality and a deceased child.

Raymond Liam Lancaster, 22, faced Brisbane District Court on Friday after previously pleading guilty to possessing child exploitation material.

Judge Michael Byrne said police had discovered the “truly horrendous” stash while investigating Lancaster for child sex offences, which he has since been convicted of.

Across three devices, they found just under 1200 images and 150 videos.

Judge Byrne said the material included children being tortured, raped, involved in bestiality, along with sex acts involving deceased children.

“This is at the top end of the level of abhorrence of the material that comes before the court,” he said.

“These are very abhorrent and depraved images.”

Defence barrister Matthew Hynes emphasised his client’s young age.

He said Lancaster had been grappling with mental health issues at the time of his offending.

The court heard Lancaster had struggled with ACD, ADHD, and OCD issues throughout his life.

Mr Hynes said Lancaster was already engaging with sexual offender programs, a psychologist, and probation because of his previous conviction.

“He is on the path of rehabilitation,” he said.

Judge Byrne acknowledged Lancaster had received a “favourable report” from the probation office.

“This type of material usually results in people being taken into the cells and out to the jails,” he said.

But he said he would not send Lancaster back to jail today.

He noted Lancaster had already served a total of 80 days in custody for his previous offending.

“I can only guess what he (the judge) would have done if he had known of his abhorrent material,” Judge Byrne said.

“You can safely be assured that if you offend in any sexual manner – child exploitation material or sexual offending – you will inevitably serve a lengthy period in jail,” he warned Lancaster.

Lancaster was sentenced to 18 months jail, wholly suspended for an operational period of two and a half years.

His presentence custody was taken into account, but not declared time-served.
