Ipswich IT professional Arman Mahboobi jailed for storing 5000 child porn images

A Springfield IT worker was busted with nearly 5000 photos and videos of child exploitation material and a 170-page guide to child sex, Ipswich District Court has heard.

A Springfield man has been jail after being found with nearly 5000 photos and videos of child exploitation material and a detailed 170-page guide to luring child victims for sex.

Arman Mahboobi, 58, faced in Ipswich District Court on Monday, June 3, on charges of indecent treatment of a child under 16 and possessing child exploitation material.

The IT specialist was also charged with using a carriage service to access child abuse material and using a carriage service to transmit, make available, publish, distribute, advertise or promote child abuse material.

He pleaded guilty to all charges.

The court heard that police discovered his IP address through a peer-to-sharing network.

They accessed two child exploitation videos, one of a school-aged girl performing a sex act and another which depicted a preschool-aged girl’s genitalia.

After Police attended his home on April 12 in 2023 they discovered more than 4600 images and videos of victims as young as three years old, the court heard.

There were 250 unique videos plus more duplicates.

The material included images of children’s breasts and genital areas of both male and female children.

Police also found a 170-page electronic PDF document titled “How to practise child role play: guide”, containing a step-by-step instruction manual on luring underage victims.

The court also heard the defendant took about 10 indecent photographs of a family friends’ child who was staying in his house, searches of his mobile phone revealed.

The photos were taken on January 20, 2020 and April 5, 2021.

Chief Judge Brian Devereaux said it was a significant quantity of material and more than half of the victims were under the age of 13.

He said the electronic PDF document was a manual for grooming a child and a guide to having child sexual intercourse.

“You were downloading these materials for over a year,” chief Judge Devereaux said.

The court heard Mahboobi was described by his psychologist as having “pornography addiction” which had affected his relationship with his wife.

He also spoke with his psychologist about his tendency to objectify female features.

Judge Devereaux said the defendant understood that he needed help.

He sentenced Mahboobi to jail for two and a half years, suspended after eight months.

He also imposed a good behaviour bond and probation for two years following Mahboobi’s release.
