A Logan teenager who stole several handbags and punched a woman with a group of friends at a shopping centre, has been sentenced in court.

A Logan teenager who stole several handbags and punched a woman with a group of friends at a shopping centre, has been sentenced in court.

Aurora Natalia Hogg, 19, pleaded guilty in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Monday, July 10 to assault occasioning bodily harm and two counts of stealing.

The court heard that Hogg, from Browns Plains, and a group of female friends were at Logan Hyperdome Shopping Centre on July 20, last year.

Hogg stole six handbags from a store and ran out of the shopping centre, before being confronted by a customer.

One of the members of her group punched the customer in the face and injured their nose.

The court heard Hogg did not throw any punches herself but was sentenced as a party to the offending.

She was on probation for a previous stealing incident at the time of the offence.

Defence lawyer David Gilmore noted his client’s early plea of guilty.

“She went in for the purpose of stealing but was very much the secondary party to the assault,” he said.

“She doesn’t have a serious criminal history.”

The court heard Hogg was looking to start University studies and go into the field of child care.

Magistrate Gary Finger said Hogg would be serving jail time if she kept behaving this way.

“You’ve got to wake up to yourself. If you keep committing these offences you’ll go to jail,” he said.

“Would you like it if someone punched you in the nose?”

Hogg was sentenced to a period of probation for 18 months and was ordered to complete 60 hours of community service within a year.

No conviction was recorded.
