Gold Coast petrol prices are the lowest in about a decade but they are not going to last forever, motoring body has warned.

GOLD Coast petrol prices are the lowest in a decade but they are not going to last forever, a motoring body has warned.

Motorists have been pleasantly surprised at the bowser with e10 unleaded plummeting below 85 cents per litre during the past few days.

The cheapest E10 fuel on the Coast today is 75.9 cents per litre at United Carrara, the average fuel price is sitting around 85.9 cents per litre.

RACQ spokeswoman Renee Smith said this was some of the cheapest e10 fuel Queensland had seen.

“Motorists are able to fill up at these quite unbelievable prices at quite a few places around Queensland,” she said.

“If you are undertaking essential travel and need fuel – now is the time to fill up.

“It is important to stay local and use the apps out there to find cheap fuel.”

Motorists caused traffic congestion in Nerang last year as they lined up for more than a kilometre down the street to get fuel just under $1.

Ms Smith said unleaded fuel was at a 10-year low due to being at the bottom of the fuel cycle, the coronavirus crisis and global oil prices recently dropping to an 18 year low.

“Due to these uncertain times, the price cycle may not behave like it usually should.

“But expect at sometime for it to quickly climb by about 40 cents per litre but we do not know when that will happen.”
